    Hi Mark,

My dad also had a stent placed to take care of his jaundice and it worked very well indeed. The itching drove him mad and nothing he tried worked for it and the relief he got from the stent was huge! It was a metal stent that my dad had. I hope that your dads stent placing goes well and I am sure that it will make him feel so much better.

My best wishes to you and your dad,

    Gavin

Mark….hang in there. As mentioned by Mark and Lainy, your Dad will feel much better once the bilirubin issue has been resolved. And, then you take it one step at a time, dear Mark. Good luck tomorrow and please, keep us posted.
    Hugs,
    Marion

MarkT, I almost forgot. When Teddy jaundiced we found this cream at Walgreens/CVS that REALLY helped the itching. It is called Sarna. The other thing we did was use little ice bags where the itching was worse or a cool shower..

    Hi Mark:

I’m sorry to hear that your dad is suffering from jaundice, and especially the pruritis (itching). I know from my own experience that there is nothing much worse than the generalized itching that comes with jaundice. It is absolutely intolerable!

Obviously, the itching and yellowness indicate high bilirubin levels. Chemotherapy cannot be safely administered with elevated bilirubin. So, I think part of the purpose of stenting in your father’s case would be to reduce bilirubin so that treatment might be continued. Obviously, the oncologist will make that determination.

I hope your father finds relief.

    All the best, Mark

Mark, about the only way to get relief from Jaundice is to be stented. I believe that after stenting you can proceed with what ever the ONC deems necesary. The Jaundice and itching is the absolute worse. These are our bumps in the road and yes, they can be over come. Please let us know hw Dad does with the stenting.

Hi,my dad is yellow and itching and having ascites we met today a new md today Eddie abdalla at md Anderson he is a surgical oncologist does anyone know him or treated him? He asked us to do a new MRI tomorrow and then to have a stent placed to relieve to jaundice and itching my dad is having then he will see him again to see which treatment is ok for him , has anyone done a stent and what after can we continue to have chemotherapy and radiation is it possible to overcome the weakness my dad is feeling after the stunt and continue chemo or is that mean the end is near? I’m worry I would like to know if someone has been thru stenting when is really weak and jaundice and has ascites can he overcome and go back for the battle hope to hear from u all . God bless
