    Andrea,

Is your dad being seen at a large hospital? If he is interested in another opinion, Sydney seems to see quite a bit of CC and RPA would I believe be the biggest. Some of the doctors there have private practices as well if he prefers that.

    Best wishes,

No.. We’ve moved back to Taiwan where we’re originally from. Which hospital do you recommend in Sydney? My father is now refusing to do any more chemo as the outcome wasn’t as good as he expected.

Gavin – I didn’t find much about moderate use of alcohol using Search. Do you remember something definitive you may have come across? Thanks.

    Duke-
My dad had 6 rounds of chemo but his tumor hadn’t shrunk as much as you did.. It was only 1cm. How are you going with chemo recently?

Dear Catherine, Congratulations to Mom and I can taste that Lobster roll! Looking forward to hearing good news from the Scan.

Hi- Mom is not a big drinker, but we are Irish, and family gatherings/celebrations typically do include a few pints or a glass of wine. During chemo, she never had the desire to drink, but after the chemo and the Y-90 treatment was over, she was looking foward to the planned beach vacation and sharing a cocktail with family at the cabana bar. Doctor said no alcohol for first couple of months after y-90, but after that, “do not go on a bender”. I’m pretty sure that the doctor realized that her “drinking” would be nursing a beer or glass of wine for a few hours and going on a bender was never a worry even before diagnosis. Vacation was wonderful and she did have an occasional drink during the week.

If all goes well, (scan is next week) , hope that in July we will have a vaction up to Portland Maine which will involve at least one loster roll with a cold beer on a dock overlooking the harbor.

(Should note- Mom did not have a resection and liver function has been normal except for during chemo.)

Dukenuken.. thank you for sharing that, my dad’s also eating the stuff he likes now but he’s still on a diet. I admire your attitude, I’ve been telling my dad about your experience and it is a true inspiration for him.

Darla….I’m in Marion, but it’s connected to Cedar Rapids…..and in addition, I’m originally from Cumberland in southwest Iowa….where I grew up….very close to Walnut. Small world indeed. Casinos huh? Yup….there are a “few”. :)

Julie—I’m in Plymouth, about an hour north of Milwaukee. Used to do some antique shows in Iowa. Walnut, Cedar Rapids and a few others. Spent time in Des Moines and have been to several of the casinos on the way there & back. :) One of my sons lived in Cedar Rapids years ago, too.

Julie, Unfortunately I don’t have your restraint. I am one of those keep cutting a little more people. :) Although I don’t have diabetes or CC. still not good to eat too much. Yes, coffee, Kringle and a nice chat would be great. Maybe some day—-Darla

I suppose now isn’t the time to take up having a drink, if I really didn’t do it before….but now I want all the stuff that I shouldn’t have. I may get an NA beer tonight….just for the heck of it…..thanks for that idea Lainy….I forgot all about NA.

Darla….It’s fun to hear that there’s someone else out there with my same favorite sweet tooth item. It seems it’s my “go to” treat since being diagnosed. I cut the Kringle up into 8ths…which is the serving size…and put each piece into a small snack baggie….so I’m not tempted to keep cutting a “little more”. Since I have type 1.5 diabetes and am on insulin, I need to watch my carbs….and esp now so that the blood doesn’t get too thick and make more risk of clots. Oh man,…..now all I can think of is the Kringle. Need to get in the car and run errands to get away from those baggies of sweet goodness.

Wish we could get together and enjoy some Kringle and coffee together sometime. You never know.

HI Duke,I too enjoy my pints. I live in an area well known for micro brews and breweries and have often wondered the effects or burdens this has/had upon my liver. Though post op my instructions have been clear: 1 drink allowed per week and my surgeon told me to “savor” this moment. pre surgery my onc would basically say don’t over do it, and I didn’t. I am curious if there is any research on this.

    Julie,

Good choice! :) Almond Danish Kringle is one of my favorites. I have to admit I do also enjoy a good glass of wine now & then, too. :) I admittedly am not always a healthy eater, but yes, we all have the right to make our own choices.

Hi Duke, all I know is about 3 years after his Whipple, Teddy asked the ONC if he could have some red wine and the ONC said, “Go ahead, 1 glass here and there will not hurt”. So of course Teddy couldn’t wait for dinner time and tried it and guess what? He couldn’t stand the taste! I know it’s not quite the same but what about non-alcoholic beer? Guess you have to play “ask the ONC”.
