Roni: this is how I understand the difference between the two: hospice care and palliative care:
Hospice is specialized medical care for people who have less than six months to live. It is not about given up rather; it is about giving care and providing comfort. This includes medications, medical supplies and equipment to manage patients

Nancy….sure wish for things to look up for your Mom. With the stenting behind her and the infection controlled she should feel better.
Fingers crossed for things to improve for her.
    All my best,
    Marion

Hi Roni, so sorry you have reached this point with your Mother. Hospice will start coming out for up to a year with an order/request from your Mom’s Doctor. Perhaps you could put it as palliative care, helping you to help her. No more Doctor visits as they will be the go between for Mom and her ONC. Also, once she starts she can stop any time if she wants to but I doubt if she will. They know just how to handle people in the right way. Perhaps if you put it to Mom to just have the initial interview and I think she will go for it. Good Luck.

    Dear Nancy,

You are not alone. I am in the same position with my mother. My mother is terrified of hospice. Wont even consider it. The doctor just gave her 6 month-ish…Is palliative care the same as hospice, just a nicer word? I think palliative care and support would help my mother, but am not sure what criteria you need to meet to utilize the service? I hope your mother’s pain is getting a bit better and I am glad you can be by her side holding her hand. She is very lucky to have you. Am here if you ever need to talk.
    Hugs,
    Roni

Dear Nancy, I am so sorry to read all that is happening to your Mom. I am sure both of you will be glad when she gets home and sometimes just coming home really boosts one’s spirit and helps the healing. Never apologize for venting, that is what we are all here for.

Having been a caregiver for my stepfather, who had widespread internal cancer, morphine was the only effective pain med for him in the last several months. He had made me promise to let him stay at home to the end, which we did. It did create some problems getting morphine at times, but we managed. I can certainly empathize with what you’re going through.

Nancy, bless you for being there for your mom.

Dear Nanjvd, do you know how much Fentanyl she is getting? If it doesn’t work they can also try Dilaudid or Morphine. Fentanyl is strong but didn’t work for Teddy the Morphine worked better. Everyting works different for different people. I am feeling for you, try to be strong, it really does get you through.

from my memory the tumor is bigger than 7cm. the stent may not be able to be put in with ercp because the tumor is placement. we may need to see an radiologist for that also

it just seems like the snow ball is slipping down the mountain and i can not catch it

Nanjvd, sounds like your Mom is in need of a stent. It will clear most of the Jaundice and relieve the itching. For itching Walgreens/CVS have a product called Sarna. Its a real good cream to stop itching. Also ice bags help.
You might want to ask the Radiologist about Cyber Knife if he is considering radiation. Cyber Knife has hardly any side effects. My husband had it and it woks only if the tumor is under 7 CM and can be reached. Best of luck tomorrow.

i am scare for her and she is scared for herself and i am scared for me
