I don’t care what anyone says but I firmly believe that there’s NO cure for Bile Duct Cancer for now, not even Nerium Oleander Extract. At the same token, I believe that there has been a cure for cancer for many years but they have failed to advise the public because the pharmaceutical companies would lose a great amount of money. Chemo costs a fortune as well as other medications related to cancer treatments.

What a shame to watch and hear of so many people dying of Cancer. My mother died of Bile Duct Cancer and I will never forget it.

This discussion forum provides the perfect venue for comments of any kind hence; I appreciate your thought provoking contributions to this site. In re: to off label drugs: Pharma generates a majority of revenue from off label drug usage. Physicians are able to prescribe medications based on their expert opinions however; Pharma is not allowed to market as such. But, as you well know, the rules are broken often.
Like you, I believe that life saving drugs should be developed for humanity reasons only however; these industries are businesses and they provide something we desperately need.
Much of the information published especially via the internet is questionable at best, but as you say, it is difficult for a layperson to distinguish the relevant from the non-relevant. Therefore, it is best to focus on those studies peer-reviewed and presented by reputable organizations and then follow-up with the treating physicians.
And, you are so right, dear NarinderSing, ultimately we have to make a decision based on what we believe is best for our personal situation.
    Hugs,
    Marion

Humblest greetings to you all i hope everyone is as well as they can be. My intentions here are not to promote anything especially herbal remedies. My advice is that we are in the age of information therefore anything with due diligence can be researched. One oviously has to be aware of misinformation and propaganda. MD Anderson have done testing with oleander extract. As to FDA and Big Pharma that is just too big of a topic to talk about. Off label arketing done by Big Pharma is illegal but is still practiced, fundamentally for an industry there to aid humanity (is it, isn’t it, i don’t know) puts up a big red flag for me. Just recently ive read about anti depressants being linked with a lot of unimaginable behaviours and crimes. The british Medical Joural will only allow papers to be published if all research data is provided, this is a relativley new practice, as before companies would only publish favourable outcomes to their studies regardless of whether the negative outnumbered the positive. So what im trying to say is, one must use their best judgement or rely on the best judgement of others.

    Hi, Lainy
I will promise you this, if I can last that long with this disease, i will be turned into a medical display somewhere in Mayo .clinic or in the freezer in the basement for them to dissect and learn about CCA . If so, I cannot come to your place to cook and stir fry a sliced bitter cucumber or melon with diced or sliced chicken or salmon for you. Yummy dish but required special taste buds.
    Take good care of yourself.
    God bless.

Hi Percy, I find this all so very interesting, although I kind of go along with the Scientific approach. With that said, my wish is for you to keep up your one man trial and in another 50 years give us the results!

    Hi, Singh,
We both know how valuable the traditional herbal medicine practice between both of our oriental culture;otherwise they will not last till now and use beyond India and China, but among other modern countries like Singapore,Japan, south Korea,Taiwan and lots of countries in the Far East region of the world as well as other parts of the world not being mentioned.
But if you look at the current herbal medicine formulations closely and compare thousands years ago,for example ,the bible of Chinese herbal medicine called” The classification of the origin of herbs” written a couple thousands years ago. You will notice the herbal formulas are continuing to evolve and change for a better treatment outcome. And now as you may know already the herbal medicines are adapting the western method to simplify the method of delivery–from cooking out a concoction to making them into extracts ,granuals or put the solid ingredient after purification in to capsule form for easy compliance of the patients. But the efficacy of the herbal alone or in combination is difficult to prove and I think that is one of the reason that the Herbal medicine practice is ,in my research opinion,a continuation of clinical trial over a much longer period for each patient who are on herbal medicine and most of them will take other additional supplements as they see fit.
I personally used Chinese herbal medicines that I know of maybe of proven value, more or less like the oleander extract you have done research on. But I know full well that herbal medicine may only work for some and not for the others and the effectiveness may be marginal on treating cancer, but definitely have its value on the complimentary side of the spectrum., decrease the side effects of chemotherapy, provide harmony and well being comfort as a whole to the human body. . Therefore the main reason for me to use herbal is ” for me as an experiment only to prove whether that herbal works for me or not- a one man clinical trial.” The same as I had done to see how fast and how big my tumor can grow in a 10-12 month period.
I am a medical professional who knows a bit more about the inner workings, their goal , function and the responsibility of FDA to the entire world than many of the average people in the States . So I will restricted my comment with regard to your view of the FDA . But I have no problem to believe that ,without the careful planning ,review , mandate of laws and other legal matters to guard against false claims of treatments efficacy.without tens of thousands of science researchers and clinicians to formulated clinical trials from a single chemical compound which studied and picked out from thousands possible chemical compounds; and make that single chemical compound go thru years of clinical trails from phase 1 to phase 4,then in my opinion, there will be no effective treatments, medical devices and drugs to be invented and we will be back in the middle age medical practice again ,crude and painful.
furthermore, under the current system ,if it fails to meet the end points of that study, then the big pharma will lose a lot of money but they will start again, most of the time, to find another compound out of the tens or thousands chemicals until the efficacy of that chemical compound is known, then FDA will be involved for approval it to become a drug. . It truly is not a single person’ s effort but involved thousands. Therefore the comment of” rigorous testing” is not only appropriate but always adopted by the FDA, as well as universities , medical centers and the Big and Small pharmaceutical companies which are involved.

.I believe both of our intentions are good for the forum otherwise we both will not spend this much time for such a horrible disease. I wish I can be as lucky as your dad to achieve such longevity since I am also a cholangiocarcinoma patient.
BTW,I did take a look about herbs similiar to oleander in my Chinese herbal manual, it’s medicinal property is on the ” cool side” and I am belong to the cool side; according to the Chinese herbal practitioner ( TCM), it may be good for me if I take oleander with other “warmer” medicinal property herbs like Korea gingsing or Juju bean among others to balance my ” positive and negetive energy ” if I want to try oleander extract. (ps. for patients and other caregivers who are not familiar with herbal medicine, read the below link before considering using oleander.)
You are a good son to your father and care about other people as well, and we appreciate your contribution to this forum.
    God bless.

Narinder…..Much of what you say I agree with. Pharmaceutical companies are in the business of making money, but I don’t see much difference in the mass marketing of herbal supplements either. The only and crucial difference lays in the oversight that allows these drugs/herbs to be marketed. Having said that, a large number of modern drugs owe their origin to botanical remedies. In fact, the World Health Organization estimates that approximately 25% of modern drugs used in the United States have been derived from plants. Personally, given my European background, I very much prefer using natural ingredients in food for consumption and herbs for numerous ailments to that of pharmaceutical drugs. However; once a disease or ailment becomes acute I believe that we have to resort to treatments widely researched and clinically proven. The regulatory process is pretty stringent at the FDA, requiring drugs to undergo rigid testing before entering the market. And, within this lays the crux of the matter – supplements/herbals do not undergo these large scale studies. Hence consumers don’t have the benefit of protection needed to assure that the herbs/supplements offered truly are beneficial and not cause harm to the person. We could argue that many drugs legally distributed also cause harm, and that it correct, but then again we have a bit more oversight over said drugs. There is no reason to believe that some of the herbs used for centuries could not be a effective as some of the drugs legally sold, but given the fact that natural products such as these can’t be patented, companies are not interested in conducting clinical trials to assure the safety and efficacy of these herbs and supplements. And, unfortunately, it takes millions and more to conduct these trials and these monies are provided by Industry only.
Is the FDA foolproof – absolutely, it is not in fact, it is undergoing much scrutinity in numerous aeas including the slow process of delaying bringing life saving drugs to the patient community.
Clinical Trials are conducted in phases I, II, III and IV with the later being ongoing and indefinite. Hence we often see a drug recalled (years later) due to the fact that even though it proved effective in the early years, the long term use showed to be either not beneficial or even harmful to the consumer. By no means is it a perfect world, but when confronted with a serious disease, we only so much to go by and that is what has been proven clinically. Or, we make decisions based on our own research and work with those experts supporting our ideology in order to combat a disease little understood and potentially devastating to the patient.
Your father benefitted greatly from the approach taken by you and your family and possibly you have shared with us a winning combination of how to achieve long term success with this devastating cancer, but we simply don’t know how it worked and whether it works for someone else also.
For the present I relish the fact that you have done a superb job in providing the best of care for your dear father and that is something to cherish forever. He was a wonderful man to have raised such a fine son.

My advice is to do extensive research in whatever might interest you in aiding your physical and mental health. In my fathers case he was given 6 months to live and we were blessed by having him for 7 years post diagnosis and that was without surgical or pharmaceutical intervention. I’m 35 years old now and a father of two and in my short time i think i may have learned a thing or two. Things in this world are not always what they seem. therefore when one suggests “the rigorous testing’s required for FDA approval” i’m sure there are many arguments for and against what the FDA does and how Big Pharma do there “testing”. No one person or peaople have the answer to everything in this world, so to me when one is steadfast in their opinion over something that may or not be true seems irrational. The philosophy that helped my father and my family during our difficult time is that god has given us everything we might need. I praise the doctors and care staff around my father as they all played thier parts to the fullest, in part i believe because we were informed consumers, this website was crucial. I pray for all of you, that God gives us all strength to continue.

I know this is an old cliche but, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is not true”. Otherwise wouldn’t most Doctors be recommending it? ANd a reminder, NEVER take anything without your ONC approval first!

I agree with Percy. Complimentary and alternative medicines do not undergo the rigorous testing’s required for FDA approval. Hence case studies such as the one presented above, need to be approached with caution.
This link offers an easy understanding of Clinical Research Studies – it sets the gold standard for drug approval and assures patient protection in all aspects of each individual trial. http://www.cancer.net/all-about-cancer/clinical-trials/phases-clinical-trials

The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation has a direct feed to clinicaltrials.gov approved research studies:
    http://www.cholangiocarcinoma.org/clinicaltrials.htm

    Additionally, TrialCheck offers individualized information
    https://www.eviticlinicaltrials.com/services/

It is of most importance that you discuss with your physician the possibility of entering a clinical trial, as he/she will help you guide to the correct study.
Bill, often we compare Cholangiocarcinoma to that of a chronic disease by putting out the fires as they arise. I am hoping that the metastases to the spine can be controlled with radiation and that you will find for one or the other medications best suited for you. Fingers are crossed and tons of positive thoughts are heading your way. Please stay in touch.

    Hi,
This subject matter should belong to CAM ( complimentary and alternative medicine ). It is not an FDA approval medication and as Narinder Singh said it is classified as dietary supplement only and their efficacy is not evidance-based like FDA approval drug. Therefore buyer and users be aware.
    God bless.

I was diagnosed with Stage IV Bile Duct (Cholangiocarcinoma) in Jan 2012. I had Chemo (Gemzar, Oxaliplatin) for six months. This combination of chemos decreased the tumor marker in the beginning, but did nor work after that. My oncologist put me on Xeloda in Aug 2012. It worked for a few months and tumor marker went down, but then it stopped having any positive effect, too. The tumor kept on growing. I had radiation to one part of of tumor for about 25 days. It shrunk that part of the tumor but cancer spread to a couple of ribs and some other parts of liver. Now I am looking for an effective Clinical Trial for this disease.
Will Nerium Oleander Extract (NOE) will help me? Looking for any effective treatment.

    Thanks

    Case Report: Cholangiocarcinoma
A white female patient born in Jan. 25, 1962 experienced abdominal pain and weight loss. Obstructive jaundice then occurred. ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) and CAT scan were performed a revealed a significant stricture of the common right and left hepatic ducts. A stent was implanted and the patient underwent surgery and was found to have a small cicatrising mass at the hilum which involved the port vein posterially with adjacent metastatic lymph nodes. Biopsies confirmed the presence of an infiltrating carcinoma consistent with primary carcinoma of the bile duct. A segment III bypass was then performed. The patient’s jaundice settled but the patient was discharged from the hospital when it was determined that chemotheraphy and/or radiotheraphy were not likely to be of any benefit to her.

By the time that the patient presented to a hospice (approximately 3 months after onset of the original symptoms), she had lost approximately 42 pounds and was in very poor medical condition. The patient started NOE treatment in an initial regimen comprising a daily I.M. injection dosage of 0.3 cc which was increased to 0.5 cc after one week and maintained.

The patient’s general medical condition improved gradually. After approximately 3 months of treatment, the patient had gained approximately 28 pounds in weight and a follow-up CAT scan revealed no tumoral mass. An ERCP was performed approximately two months later to remove the stent. The ERCP also confirmed the absence of a tumoral mass.

The patient was then placed on a maintenance regimen comprising sublingual adminstration of NOE extract 3×0.3 cc every day.
