Sally….agree with Lainy and Duke. Your dear brother is dealing with so much already, the additional diagnoses truly is upsetting.
Also wanted to mention that we have previous reports of patients with physical and mental challenges undergoing surgeries and chemotherapy treatments. You might want to use the “search” function by keying in words such as “whipple” “mentally challenged” or others.

Physicians disagree with their approaches, hence it is advised to obtain 2nd or more professional opinions.
Also, we have a web presentation you might want to participate in:
Surgical Management of Cholangiocarcinoma – State of the Art and Beyond
    http://cholangiocarcinoma.org/webinar-surgical-management-of-cholangiocarcinoma-state-of-the-art-and-beyond/
An additional 15 minutes are allotted for questions and answers.
Please stay in touch – we care and we are in this together.

    Hugs
    Marion

Echoing what Lainy said: you and your sister have to maintain positive attitudes for your sakes and for your brother. I’m going to make a huge leap here and guess that he has learned over the years to pick up non-verbal clues from you. This diagnosis scared the heck out of me, a second guess is that it is doing the same for him. You two are one of his main pipelines to he world. Do not underestimate the affect on him, nor underestimate his strength. He’s addressed his challenges so far and may well find a way to address this one. You walk a fine line between honesty and love. Don’t hesitate to come here to ask questions or simply to express yourself. We are walking the same path as you, your sister, and your brother. It may be hard for you to open up to strangers – proceed at your own pace and comfort level. We won’t force ourselves on you but we will help any way you want us to.

Dear Sally, welcome to the best place to be for CC support. I am so sorry about your brother and it makes one think how much any one human has to endure. You and your Sister are his 2 angels, I am sure.
So happens I am from Milwaukee although been out here for 20 years. My husband Teddy and I went to Milwaukee to visit our kids, his and mine, and he Jaundiced and with in a few days started tests (this was 9 years ago) only to find CC. He had an Aborted Whipple at St. Mary’s in Mequon and 3 weeks later had the real deal at Columbia Hospital. The Whipple is a very huge surgery but NOT life threatening. He had clear margins but the ONC and Radiation DR. agreed to no chemo where his was located. It is also a fairly long recovery. Most importantly, you want to make sure your brother is with an ONC and Hospital very familiar with CC. I believe the ONC Teddy had has retired but there is another good one at Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee and in fact he is on our Board of Doctors. I know this is like a horror movie but the best you can do is to have good attitudes, attitude is everything. Please keep us informed of your brother’s treatment as we really do care.

Hello – My sister and I are the legal guardians of our 64 year old mentally and physically challenged brother who was just diagnosed with this cancer. He suffered a stroke when he was 9 months old which left the right side of his body paralyzed; also cognitive issues. He has been able to lead an active life and for the past 20 some years has proudly lived independently and has maintained a part time job at the main branch of the city library. We are all devastated that he now has to deal with yet another challenge which is not going to be easy. Has anyone had a friend or family member is a similar situation with this type of cancer who is willing to share the experience with the conventional surgical procedure (whipple) and/or other treatment options? Appreciate any advice whether good or not. Thanks!
