I really don’t like Oxy although it seems to be working for me. I miss my ice cream and cold milk.
April 20, 2009 at 2:52 pm #24127jsratlantaMemberAfter 7 months on Oxy, the neuopathy got so bad–no feeling in my hands to the second knuckle–they had to take me off it. I am still on Xeloda, which I tolerate very well, on its own. Good luck!
March 4, 2009 at 2:38 pm #24126cherbourgSpectatorDear Oscarcamacho243,
My Mom (77) had 5 rounds of Oxyliplatin and Gemzar each two weeks apart. She was amazing and had absolutely no side effect except for the cold neuropathy that lasted two days after each treatment. She was mostly miffed that it curtailed her having her milkshake on those two days. I was amazed that she never experienced anything bad with these two drugs. She also later added Nexavar to the mix and then proceeded to the Xelolda.
Just remember everyone is different in their tolerances and this monster of a disease is different for everyone as well.
I hope for the best for you. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Hugs!
Pam

March 3, 2009 at 4:25 pm #24119lisaSpectatorI get to have my cell poison (oxaliplatin) today. Yippee! (NOT!)
February 28, 2009 at 5:50 pm #24118heatherkpMemberjsratlanta…my husband was on oxyaliplatin and a cocktail of two others…the oxy made him EXTREMELY sensitive to cold….everything he ate and drank had to be warm…bath time had to be very, very hot water and the thermostat had to be on throughout the house at close to 80…our dear friends bought him a flannel heated blanket…he just never seemed to be able to stay warm…just a little heads up…all people are different and their responses to treatment as well…but if you can prepare ahead of time…if and when symptoms occur…it is less stressful…another thing…it seemed to bother his stomach a whole lot more…so vomiting was something he did often…I always had paper towels and a wastebasket with a liner right beside him….know that you will be in our prayers as you begin yet another avenue in fighting this horrible, awful beast.
Love,
HeatherFebruary 28, 2009 at 4:58 pm #24117devoncatSpectatorjsratlanta,
I will be starting the same combo on Wednesday. I am so glad you are responding so well to it. May your numbers continue the downward descent!Kris
February 28, 2009 at 1:05 am #24116marionsModeratorjsratlanta…..congratulations on your great response to Xeloda – Oxyplatin mix. How many more treatments are you looking at? Is the perihipial neuropathy more tolerable at this time? Certainly, the tumor count is so very encouraging and I am wishing for it to continue to spiral downward.
Hugs
MarionFebruary 27, 2009 at 6:04 pm #24115jsratlantaMemberI have now had 8 rounds of Oxy and Xeloda (12 PILLS A DAY)and the cumulative fatigue and neuropathy is more profound but I am still working part time. Hanging tough, my CA 19-9 levels have reduced from 508 to 208. So it is encouraging.
January 6, 2009 at 4:16 am #24114woodroseSpectatorLike Michael from San Diego stated, it is the oxaliplatin that is the cold sensitive part of the regiment. It is the only drug to have such cold sensitizing side effects. I have made my share of mistakes with it. Take things slow when ingesting liquids. You don’t want to end up in the ER.
