Dear Paul,
I too think your post may have gotten lost in the shuffle. I also have no experience or answers about chemo but whole heartedly agree with Lainy on getting more opinions. Hopefully now that there are more posts here someone else will catch it that can give you some answers. Oh and welcome. Glad you have joined us and hope we can be of some help. Wishing your dad the best on his journey. Please stay with us and let us know how things are going.

Your Post may have crossed with our new web site coming on. I cannot help on chemo as my husband never had it as he had a Whipple. What your Dad had was so close to a Whipple I am wondering why he didn’t do a full Whipple. My best suggestions to you is to get another opinion STAT as something is not ringing right with me. Where is your Dad being treated? You want to make sure he is with an ONC who has treated quite a few CCers and at a Hospital experienced with CC. I would say that most of our patients here do go for at least a 2nd opinion as well as a 3rd or 4th. Your last statement that the DOCs are unsure what to do would make me run quickly to a more experienced ONC. Best of luck to you and please do keep us update.

June 16, 2014 at 7:08 am #10174paulandreiMemberHi,my dad was diagnosed with cc in december 2012.At that time, the surgeon observed that he had a necrotic pancreatitis and couldn’t perform whipple. He decided to take out a part of the bile duct where the cancer was,a part of duodenum and a part of stomach. He didn’t manage to take out all the cancer and my dad started gem/oxaliplatin chemotherapy. The treatment worked and blood tests showed improvement, also, after 6 cycles of treatment,a MRI was done and everything was, except the pancreatitis(it was not the problem). After 5 months, another MRI was done, which showed progression of the cancer in the same place, pressing the anastomosis that was done there(the cancer didn’t spread to another parts of the body). Also,a clean pancreas was seen. The surgeon told us that the cancer isn’t operable anymore and we can only have chemotherapy. My dad was feeling good in that time. The oncologist decided to put him on Taxotere(docetaxel) monotherapy every 3 weeks and after the first cycle,my dad had persistent side effects like nausea, vomiting, hiccups, fever, low blood pressure and others(when he was on gemox,he had not any side effects).
I’m wondering if this is the best treatment for now.I had read about docetaxel on this forum and on the internet and results are conflicting.I spoke to another oncologist who told me that cc is a serious illness and treatment is limited(like ” doesn’t matter what you do,you can’t help him”).I see here a lot of information, but is hard to me to search all the opionions, treatments.I’d like to know what chemotherapy did you have as a second line after gemox and also if radiotherapy helped you.My father’s doctors are unsure if the radiotherapy can help him..
Thanks! -
