donna….I am quoting this exert from Wikipedia:
Other signs of ascites may be present due to its underlying etiology. For instance, in portal hypertension (perhaps due to cirrhosis or fibrosis of the liver) patients may also complain of leg swelling, bruising, gynecomastia, hematemesis, or mental changes due to encephalopathy. Those with ascites due to cancer (peritoneal carcinomatosis) may complain of chronic fatigue or weight loss.
    Best wishes coming your way,
    Marion

Thank you Marion. I was understanding that ascities was mainly abdominal swelling…So it would still be considered ascities in the legs?

donna…..I am sorry to hear about the water retention something, not uncommen with late stage of this disease. In fact, you might want to use the search function by entering: Ascities. Many previous threads will appear. Elevating the legs and tight stockings have been reported to be helpful. Others may follow with more information.
I am thinking of you and sending my warmest wishes your way,
    Marion

M y husband is just finishing his 3 cycle of Gemzar. He has terrible swelling from his toes to thighs. They are hot to touch very red. He is also so fatigued he sleeps most of his day. Is this common? he is stage 4 pancreatic cancer with mets to the live and lymph nodes. He has been takibg lasix for several days. It helps at first with a 5 lb drop in weight. Then by 2:00 its all back. Not sure what to think.
