Asia has the highest rates of occurrence however, but CC it is not the number one cancer. Pharmaceutical companies are world wide and they will select those cancers occurring worldwide. Also, they seem to gobble each other up therefore, we now have more conglomerates than ever before.
I do agree that much more information should be shared however, there are some changes coming our way. However, if a study shows promise then it will be published world wide. Here we go. We then need a pharmaceutical company to take on this study and develop it further.
Do they lie about statistics? I don’t know. But, I do know that this cancer is misdiagnosed in many instances certainly, it is misdiagnosed often in third world countries. And, if it is diagnosed then the countries are not able to treat them due to the lack of cost of medication. I believe that in the real near future clinical trials will be conducted simultaneously in cooperation with several countries. This would be of great benefit to us, because the volume of patients would increase significantly.
There is however, the question of quality control. The strict standards set by the FDA are not easy to adhere to. But, I think this will be overcome also.My question about this topic is that since CC is reported to be the #1cancer of Asia—-where the highest documented cases are……wouldn’t the pharmaceutical companies here and in Japan want to develope a drug and lead the market?
And since it is the # 1 Cancer in Asia
why does it appear that the American and British Medical/Oncological fields won’t look for information from the Chinese and Japanese Medical field. It appears that there is no exchange of information.
I asked an Oncologist this question and he replied ” they lie about their statistics–so we don’t bother”.
I mean, really now. Surely, there’s got to be more to it than that !You are so right, jebben. Many drugs are used off label. I doubt that any physician would consider tamoxofin for the treatment of this disease. These bench studies have only suggested a possible connection but, much more would have to be discovered before it could be used for CC.

MarionThanks for the information Marion. It is unfortunate that CC doesn’t get more attention. I know that oncologists often have the option to prescribe something off label–if I am understanding correctly, they can prescribe a drug that is FDA approved for any other cancer to treat CC if they feel there is a reason to. Just wondering if anyone had taken tamoxifen off label, since it is (relatively) cheap with limited side effects.

jebben….tamoxifin has not been used for treatment of CC. (Not on this site.)
Research performed in a laboratory is a lab study. In this study by the means of special equipment and cells or animals a study will suggest that a drug, procedure, or treatment is likely to be useful in humans.
It would then have to move into phase I, phase II, and complete phase III of a clinical trial. (There is a phase IV study, which is ongoing, while the drug is in circulation. This explains why often times a drug is taken off the market years later, as side effects of a specific drug may not surface until much later.) The cost of a clinical trial is estimated to be around 1 billion dollars and generally that takes around 6 to 7 years. It is only then that the company can start to recuperate the money invested andWas wondering if anyone had tried to use tamoxifen off label in combination with something like erlotinib/Tarceva or if people were using tamoxifen alone. I looked through the literature and it looks like there have been a lot of lab studies with tamoxifen and CCA, but no clinical studies, which seems odd to me.

Just wondering, because the side effect profile of tamoxifen is really pretty good and easy to tolerate–something that my grandma definitely needs because she has been pretty week.
Would appreciate your insights/any experiences anyone has had with tamoxifen and CCA.
