    Genevieve,
Three liver resections..my record is two! I had my incisional hernias fixed in April which was a relief but they had to open the entire incision back up..I would have preferred a tummy tuck but that was a no go! Love your uplifting post, thanks for sharing.

Thank you Kris! Hope you stay very well too.

Hi Marco, it was major surgery each time – big incision, at least overnight in ICU and 6 days in hospital for each of the recurrences, weeks to recover. He has been fortunate that the recurrences have been in places that allowed resection – far enough from major blood vessels and enough remaining liver.

    Best wishes,

    Genevieve

Hi Genevieve, just wondering how the surgeon removes the tumor is it a small incision or a big surgery, They told me that when my father had a new tumor on his liver, that they couldnt remove it thru surgery and didnt tell me why not. I always felt that they could remove it but living in canada and having a health care system, that its a money issue. Glad things are going well best of luck marco

What great news! I’m so happy you have been able to have “well time” between surgeries. I’m praying this is the last one he needs! Clean margins are great words to hear.

    Hi Teresa,

I read your other post and am sorry to hear the chemo is not working for your Dad.

There was another lady from Melbourne who recently joined – Mandy, user name blodynbach, and she was looking into clinical trials for her husband.

We live in Canberra and my husband’s surgeon here is Dr Charles Mosse 02 6253 4122; oncologist is Dr Yu Jo Chua.

We’ve also been to Sydney (Dr Mosse was away at the time of husband’s first recurrence) and the surgeon was Dr Charbel Sandroussi 02 9565 1375. We also saw medical oncologist Dr Peter Grimison. They work at RPA and also privately at RPA medical centre and the Mater Hospital.

    Best wishes,

    Genevieve

    Hi Genevieve,

My father has 2 liver lesions and I would like that he is seriously considered for surgery. I know that it is not intra hepatic carcinoma however am wondering whcih hospital your husband visits and whom is his surgical/oncology team?

Thanks for sharing that with us all Genevieve, I love hearing news like that!! I hope that the Xeloda works well for your husband and also that they will be able to do something to fix the hernia issues. Please keep us updated on everything.

    My best to you both,

    Gavin

Genevieve……kudos to the aggressive surgeon, a strong patient and wonderful, supportive wife.
Fantastic news. Hernias are nearly unavoidable in fact, we could have a second website focusing only on residual hernia patients. But, in many instances, at one point, a surgery will correct this problem as well.
    Hugs,
    Marion

Genevieve, great news from across the waters. Your husband is a real warrior and now deserves only good news. I think he also deserves a big YIPPEE! You both obviously have great attitudes and just keep on keeping on! Tell him how happy we are for you both and please keep us updated on his progress. Let’s give him one more YIPPEE!

P.S. My husband also had incisional hernias and they just left them alone as they felt he had been through enough. It looked like he had swallowed his golf balls!

    Hello,

I think this is uncommon so thought I’d write that my husband has been able to have three liver resections for intrahepatic cc over the past three years – Oct 2011, July 2012 and July 2014. This last time he was very fortunate as the 1.5cm tumour was close to the hepatic vein, but the surgeon managed to get clear margins again. He had no adjuvant chemo after the first resection (right lobe, 5.5cm tumour with satellites up to 0.5cm), 6 cycles of gemcitabine after the second surgery (4.2cm tumour) , and now is on 8 cycles of adjuvant Xeloda. Apart from the post-op recovery time, the surgeries have given him “well” time, for which we are grateful. He has an incisional hernia (again) but nothing will be done until next year after chemo is finished, assuming all is still okay.

    Regards,

    Genevieve
