    My husband’s doctor has talked about this possibility also. Thank you Percy and Jason for posting such helpful information about it.

    interesting…they (the drs) are talking about trying something like
    this next on my husband (who is not a candidate for surgery…well,
    ever because of mets to lymph nodes and lungs.)

    Thank you very much for your reply and the links. This looks promising to me and I’ll let you know if I find anything further. It brings some comfort to know that there are others in the same situation and we can share knowledge in beating CC. Do let me know how your wife gets on with her treatment.

    Hi Jules,

    I can’t comment from experience, but I am also looking into this therapy area (my wife has unresectable ICC).

    One promising chemoembolization therapy I found was Drug-Eluting Beads with IRInotecan (DEB-IRI).

    The paper reports on results from this procedure on 24 patients. The paper describes the number of partial responses and median survival. The part of the results that caught my eye were:

    “Three patients were downstaged to resection and
    underwent subsequent hepatectomy with radiofrequency
    ablation. Three patients showed a complete response with
    100% loss of positron emission tomography scan activity.
    Of these, 1 patient remains free of disease (follow-up time,
    33.8 months) and 2 patients are alive with disease (followup
    time, 33.3 and 80 months).”

    ***Although I can’t figure out why the abstract claims only 1 patient was downgraded to resection…

    please understand that I am not a doctor and I am just doing my own research the same as you. As such, I can’t really say whether this is a good idea or not for you. However, I did want to make sure you knew it was out there.

    Hi,
    An easy( relatively speaking) procedure( TACE) or chemoembo is a palliative treatment to give a large dose of chemotherapy like cisplatin,mitomycin and adriamycin to the tumor in the liver thru arteries to the tumor sites. It is not a long term solution for the disease but can extend the quality of life and time hopefully long enough for other new treatment or medications to come around.

    Hi all,

    I’m currently in the process of researching treatments for stage IV ICC and came across transarterial chemoembolization. I was wondering whether anyone has any personal experience of this treatment. Any thoughts would be greatfully received.
