Tumor shrinkage, but not without issues

Dear Pak, yes, your Mom and you have been through a terrible ride, again the one no one wants to buy a ticket for. But we do love the “shrinkage” word. You are right that the best RX to get the Caretaker through is to be strong! I just cannot stress that enough and I know we are all different but somehow we have to dig way down as it is the ONLY way to get through this monster. Not only will it get you through but the patient knows they can rely on our strength to make them feel secure relieving stress for them so they can use their energy to get better. You never know how strong you are until “strong” is the only choice you have!

I asked for patience.
God placed me in situations where I was forced to wait.

God gave me opportunities.
I received nothing I wanted.
I received everything I needed.My mom completed 28 sessions of radiation treatments in April. She was receiving half dose of Gemzar in addition to the radiation. She is now receiving full dose of Gemzar once a week for 3 weeks, with one week off. The last CT scan was done this past week due to readmission to the hospital due to anemia. The good news is the tumor is shrinking. Size of tumor November 2011 was 5.6cm x 5.3 cm. Now the size is 4cm x 3.5 cm. We’re extremely happy the tumor has shrunk. But, it has been a tough road. She was admitted to the hospital twice so far. First admission they found a blood clot in the portal vein. This recent admission was due to sudden confusion, extreme fatigue. They initially wanted to rule out mets to the brain, but due to low H/H and abdominal pain, vomiting blood, they performed EGD and found multiple bleeder of duodenum and stomach. They were able to laser them.
We are very fortunate that the radiation and chemo did shrink the tumor. But I must say it is a tough road. I pray to God every day that my mom does not suffer. I wish the best for everyone and family members dealing with this cancer. But I pray that God will give me strength and guidance through this because I have to be strong for my mom. But, sometimes it’s hard, very hard…
