    Hi Ghannam,

I too am sorry to hear about your mum and that her doctors are having a hard time in getting a stent placed and working for her. How would your mum feel about getting another opinion from a different doctor? My dad had PDT along with a metal stent after his diagnosis and I wrote a bit about his experiences of that here on the site. Here is a link that may be of use to you –

Please let us know how things go for your mum, we are here for you.

My best wishes to you and your mum,

    Gavin

Thanks for the replies but as I trust the collective knowledge of the great people in this forum I would like to ask about PDT for palliative purpose and if anyone tried it ??

    Thanks in advance

Ghannam…..this is what I have learned: the obstruction dominates the disease progression. In addition to placement of a plastic or metallic biliary stent, percutaneous transhepatic catheters provide the best intervention for palliation of inoperable Klatskin tumors. Hence I would discuss the later with the physician. Bypass operations are also considered. As Lainy has mentioned and if possible please consult with another doctor.
    Hugs,

Dear ghannam80, I am sorry to hear this but the best I can tell you is to get another opinion. I don’t know how things work where you are but I wonder if she is with the right Doctor. It just kind of sounds like the Doctor is giving up. IF you believe in this Doctor and feel he is right then perhaps you want to talk to him about Palliative Care for your Mother, if you can get that. The bottom line is your Mother’s comfort. I am wishing the best for your Mother and please keep us updated.

    Hello All,

My mom just got diagnosed with CC mid of June 2013 with very advanced stage and we got a plastic stent placed. After a month the blood tests showed that the stent is not working so we got it replaced again and the doctor said he saw a very aggressive development of the cancer compared to the images before a month.Just one week we discovered the stent actually never worked and we got it replaced again with a different one but seems different structure but the doctor said that even with this he is not optimistic it will work and he thinks even external drain is not an option now.

Have you faced something similar and what options we got?
Thanks in advance , finding this site is the most helpful thing since my mother sickness
