Liz, I have had UC since I was 48 although my kids say I have always had stomach problems. Now at 72 really fighting it for 9 months now. I get close to that 100% then I somehow slip back again. I like to think that the powers that be would not give CC to both Teddy and me. My ONCS have mentioned it to me on my check up visits for the GIST tumor I had and I just tell them I will worry about it if that time comes. The weird thing now is I had a Gastritis attack that sent me to ER Friday and now they want to do an Endoscopy as I have a thickening where they removed my GIST tumor (on the Pylorus) and here I had a clear CT May 8th. Not worried about that either as they said it could be from the Gastritis I am getting over. What I am getting to is the Plyorus is near the Duodenum where Teddy had his CC, how strange is all that? Yes, these are my Golden Years however, slightly tarnished. Guess I better get my gold polish out!
June 23, 2012 at 11:37 pm #61859lainySpectatorIf I may stick my “fins” in here. My husband was a Korea Vet. I know he would eat anything if he was told it was a delicacy. True to their form of living in the body for 30 – 40 years his CC came on when he was 73, 40 years later. With that said, we still don’t know why so many younger people are getting CC. Percy and I both do not like the idea of Sushi. A lot of it comes from these Asian Countries. To tell you the truth I am a little concerend that my Grandkids love it so much. But, who knows for sure. It would be an ideal day when we can know the reason for CC. The only other thing we can come up with is there could be environmental reasons as well. My wish is that we find out sooner than later.
June 23, 2012 at 10:53 pm #61858EliSpectatorHi Kendra,
Of course we all heard about liver flukes! They are the #1 cause of CC in the South Asia countries like Thailand, because people there eat raw fish on a regular basis. If your BF didn’t eat any raw fish while in Malaysia, his CC is probably not related to liver flukes. If want to know for sure, ask your doctors for a stool cultures test. The test should be able to detect the liver flukes if he is infected.
We had a few older members who had been in the army and had served in Vietnam or Korea. They or their loved ones wondered if their CC was caused by liver flukes. It’s very hard to prove after so many years. We also had a few younger members who, like your BF, traveled to South Asia. They wondered the same thing.
By the way, liver flukes are also present in the Western countries. The big difference is, Western people typically don’t eat raw fish. That’s why CC is not as common in the West as it is in Asia.
Best wishes,
EliJune 23, 2012 at 10:19 pm #61857donnysgirlMemberHi everyone,
My boyfriend is only 30. He just had his second chemo treatment yesterday. So far he is feeling ok with it. He has lost about 30 lbs now in the last month and a half. He was pretty muscular to start though. Have any of you heard about Liver Flukes? They are mainly found in Asian countries. My BF traveled to Malaysia about 5 years ago. I still haven’t talked to him about what the doctor said about it, but they supposedly can cause CC. Just thought it was interesting, since I also wonder about younger people having CC.
Best wishes to you all.
-Kendra
June 18, 2012 at 2:23 am #61856marionsModeratorEileen…you don’t mention Trevor suffering from nausea – the G-tubing is working then?

MarionJune 17, 2012 at 10:17 pm #61855tiff1496MemberKris- You have me LOLing at your post. Guess I have 2 CC Momma’s.
June 17, 2012 at 10:16 pm #61854tiff1496MemberEileen–I had no clue Trevor is only 25. God bless him. Are yall on facebook? I would love to connect more with your family.
June 13, 2012 at 8:30 pm #61853tnyjax241MemberIt’s nice to see there are other people out there in the “young” category. My son Trevor is 25 and going through the whole process. Tomorrow is more chemo, which puts him out for quite a while. Loss of appetite and strength are the main problems. Keeping on the TPN of the immediate future, which is a huge inconvenience. Would love to hear news from the younger ones out there of any suggestions. We’re open to all feedback.
Many thanks.
EileenJune 10, 2012 at 6:42 am #61852marionsModeratorKen…it is great to hear from you. I recall you speaking of a 6mm spot on your left lung which, as we have witnessed often on this site turned out to be a CC metastases. The fantastic news is that it has been removed successfully and that your current scans are clear. Congratulations. Time to take a deep breath and enjoy life.

MarionJune 9, 2012 at 8:43 pm #61851lainySpectatorCongratulations on your wonderful results! Wishing for you a great summer and may the next scans be just as good! Thanks you for the good news update!
June 9, 2012 at 8:32 pm #61850obrienfam5SpectatorI am 53 with diagnosis and surgery at 52 for a very large intrahepatic mass in the right lobe. The tumor find was totally serendipitous as I had no symtoms at all but had the CT scan for a totally different reason. Removed the tumor and did not have any chemo or rad post surgery. At the time of surgery, no indications of any other tumors. At 6 months, CT scan id’d small, 5 mm, nodule in lower lobe of left lung. Followup CT scan at 8 months indicated that the nodule had grown to 8 mm. Wedge resection surgery removed the nodule and confirmed same cancer as intrahepatic cholangiocarinoma previously removed from liver with right lobectomy. Just complete two post lung surgery CTs, at 3 and 6 months post ung surgery, and both were completely clean. Planning to have another CT in 3 months and then move to 6 month CTs.
June 9, 2012 at 12:29 pm #61849pamelaSpectatorAwww Kris. I would love to be your sister. I only have one, so I would be thrilled to have another. That means you are Lauren’s Aunt. Great. Talk to ya later, Sis!! Ha ha, Sis is my oldest daughter, Kristen’s nickname.
Love,- Your big Sis.
June 9, 2012 at 3:49 am #61848kris00jSpectatorPam, don’t you dare tell anyone but I could be Tiffany’s mother too. I actually told her “momma Kris” says to her one night. And I don’t HAVE children!!!
How about “Auntie Pam”???
Better yet, you could be my sister I never had. I have a few sis’s in law, and love them dearly, too. But I always wanted a sister. I’m past the sharing clothes and giggling in the night, tho. Oh, wait, I’m not past the giggling in the night yet…June 9, 2012 at 12:50 am #61847pamelaSpectatorKris,
I don’t think of you as 48. I think of you as one of the young’uns. I am not sure if I could handle being called Momma Pam by you though. Tiff calls me her CC Momma Pam. Haha. Technically, I could be her Mom because I would have been 24 when she was born. Now you young whipper snapper, I would have been 6. I understand though because I am still young in my heart too. Take care.
Love, -Pam
June 8, 2012 at 9:46 pm #61846kris00jSpectatorI’m 48 going on 32. Does that count??? Tiff, you KNOW I speak the truth here!!!! My here was Peter Pan (not really). But I never want to grow up. I still like watching the fireworks from the ferris wheel at the fair! Best seats in the house!
