We seem to be going one step further two steps back!!! Doctors were initially pleased with how Dads stent was working but it has now stopped working. He has got to go down tomorrow for an x-ray so they can see why. Do you think his cancer could have spread this fast since Monday to block the stents already? This happened last time they stopped working after a few days.

Thank you all for your kind words. I really don’t know what I’d have done without this forum the last few weeks.

Just got back from visiting Dad, Doctors are pleased with his stent so far. They have had one and half bags of bile from his external drain but have now capped it off. He is still hungry and in no pain. He has been in hospital nearly 5 weeks now undergoing different tests and he has lost 10lbs in weight but i think this is down to being nil by mouth for lots of cancelled procedures!! and also being told there was no treatment available and he only had months left added to his stress, though it didn’t effect his appetite!. He was never going to give up his fight but now he has been told he will be offered Chemo he has got his spring back in his step which is great to see.

    Thank you all again

    Hello Andie

I join the others in welcoming you & sending best wishes to you, your dad & your son.

My sister had 2 or 3 ineffective stents before they put the latest one in & bingo – everything started draining!! They then got her on Gem/Cis as soon at the bili came down enough & she’s tolerated it well. She’s half way through her last cycle & is feeling SO much better overall.

    GOOD LUCK to your dad!!!

Thank you for your kind words, it helps to know that someone else has been through the same and is now doing well. I’ve just got back from visiting him and the doctors are pleased with the stent so far and hopefully he may be home Friday after nearly 5 weeks in hospital. Then we can start kicking this cancer into touch!!

While i’m writing this the sun is shining, hopefully a sign today is going to be a good day! Went to visit dad last night but he’d only just come back from having his stent put in and was still on another planet lol!

The good news is that while the first hospital he was in told him no treatment was likely to be offered and he’d got months to live, the QE Hospital have told him he is going to have Gemcitabine and Cisplatin. I am going to ring the Clinical Nurse Specialist today to find out more, as we still don’t know what stage or location of the tumor. I know operating would have been the best outcome but this to us is good news too, if it gives him another few years it is much better than months, each day is precious.

Lainy, you are so right, my liitle munchkin will help my Dad fight this. I was pregnant with my son when my Dad was diagnosed with Colon Cancer 9 years ago. He kicked that cancer and he will certainly do his best to kick this. The house is so quiet without my little man but the weather is lovely and hopefully he’s having the time of his life!

    Thanks again for listening

Thank you everybody for your kind words of support. The good news is that after a week of waiting to be moved Dad is definately going to the QE Hospital today and having his stent put in tomorrow, hopefully this time it will work.

We haven’t been told anything about his condition by his current hospital, probably because they know anything about it. I wrote a list of questions for them to answer and they couldn’t even answer one! Including what stage it was and where, surely that should have been in the report! I will be taking the same questions to the QE. It was this hospital that looked at Dads CT scan and said it was inoperable, we still don’t know why so hopefully after the stent tomorrow they will tell us more. I think it came as a shock to the doctors as they just thought it was scar tissue on his scan. My Dad is 62 and still feels fit and healthy. He did have colon cancer 10 years again but fully recovered from that.

I have looked into specialists and found a Peter Lodge at St James Hospital, Leeds, a Prof David Cunningham at Royal Marsden and also a Dr Valle at Manchester. When I find out more we are definately going to get a second opinion. Mainly because the treatment we have had so far has not been great but also for peace of mind that we have searched all options.

When my Dad was told he had CC the doctors never even mentioned treatment to him and when dad asked he was told “it won’t cure you, maybe give you an extra year or two!” Don’t they realise an extra year or two is everything to a family who have just been told they may lose someone so precious in a few months.

Thanks again for listening, I feel like i have found some hope with this site, when at times i feel so alone.
