Wow, it’s kind of amazing how similar our three stories are! Thank you Julie for giving me some encouragement because my mom is feeling the way your mom was, so at one point when this disease does not have a hold on her body she will again be able to live the way she wants! Right now she is on vacation at my friends parents lake house in tennessee, and we have begun plans to go to NY to see the Rockette’s at Christmas time! I love her spirit and hope to be just like her when i’m older.

Btw, her back is easing some. We found out it is an acute strained muscle and she is taking muscle relaxers and heating her back! Thank goodness it wasn’t worse than that. Thank you for your prayers, and I will be praying for all of you as well!

    Grace4five,
This post jumped at me. My mom has basically done the same thing as yours. My mom has 3 lesions in her lungs now, and the numbers haven’t changed much with her liver. She did the gem/cis since last November and now they have decided to do something new. I can’t remember at the moment what it’s called but she will have 3 different types and it’s in a bag she will wear for a couple days. Do you know what that is? And if you do, is it harsh? I’m just so torn up about this. We had great momentum going then bam, bad news… My dad isn’t taking it well so it makes it so hard because I feel like I have to hold them both up, along with my little brother who is 18 and pretty much oblivious to everything. My mom is 54 and was in perfect health. Crazy how things change so quickly. The best thing though is how much of a fighter she is, I mean, AMAZING! I was dreading seeing her after she heard but she was still so full in her heart, and still has faith that God is with her no matter the outcome.
Anyway, seems like I have went off on a tangent! My mom has been in a lot of pain with her back today and it just got me worried and pensive. I had two aunts die of cancer and a couple months before they passed their backaches got worse and worse, so I hated to see my mom so pail because of pain. Ugh!
Thank you for posting, it was so nice to find someone going through the exact same thing I am.

Its so nice to hear everyone talk so highly of taking herbal medication. My mom has been getting wiped out from all the chemo, and its not even doing anything to shrink the tumor! I think I have finally convinced her to at least check out a clinic in Blue Ash, OH (which is near where we live) that does the vitamin c intravenously. I really hope we go because I can’t stand to see her lose another pound, and cry all day on the 4th, 5th and 6th day after her chemo treatment! Its time to play offense!

Margaret, Thank you so much for your comment. It gives me energy honestly! I let my mom read it as well and she feels stronger than ever to keep fighting. I do love her oncologist. He has given us as much time as we want, we’ve called him on his cell at 10:00pm and he answered and wasn’t grumpy about it hehe He too is apart of a team of drs that meet once a month to discuss cases such as my mom, so thats encouraging. My mom, Diane, is a very faithful person, and definitely isn’t laying over accepting this thing. I’m glad you decided to be active on finding the right doc for you, you sound like a wonderful person, and a great caregiver for your husband.

Jaynus, I’m sorry your mom can’t go through chemo yet. Im worried about my mom now because she is losing weight so quickly. She just lost 4 pounds in 4 days. She isn’t sick, but is just afraid to eat. I really feel helpless about th whole thing. I’m determined to find SOMETHING she likes!!

    Gavin, she is on gemzar/cisplatiin.

Thank you all for your encouraging words. I’m glad to know there are others I can relate to.

Gavin, She is not vomiting. I really think she isn’t eating because she’s afraid of eating and getting sick. I`ve asked about the appetite enhancers but again she isn’t fond of that. She never took medication for anything before and seems like she is still not willing. I don’t know if she is just in denial or what but I feel helpless. She has lost 35 pounds altogether and I`m afraid at some point they will have to stop giving her chemo treatments…

Susan, I like the idea of smoothies so I`m going to buy one for her today and see how that goes!

Thanks to you both for your suggestions. I`m going to keep at it one meal at a time!

Hi everyone. I’m new here, my sister-in-law said its a great place for info, and I agree. My mom, 53, was diagnosed a month ago and just yesterday had her second round of chemo. Its pretty grim…she was given 3 to 6 months, but if the chemo works hopefully a year. Its amazing how quickly things progressed. She was just belching a lot and couldn’t eat very much and then bam, 3 to 6 months gets thrown at you. I obviously am still in the grieving process, but she’s been amazing. She has been tolerating chemo easily, but has had blood clots. She will have to be on blood thinning meds for the entire time she has cancer.

Has anyone else had a diagnosis like this and lived longer? Does chemo even work? I’ve had 2 aunts die from breast cancer, so I have kind of a negative outlook on this. My mom has an amazing oncologist. He said she could be his miracle, his scientific breakthrough! I’m praying for that. But I’m just glad she isn’t having harsh side effects so she can live each day somewhat normally.

I’m really thankful for this website, and will be visiting often!
