My husband (dx April 9 2012), had a tumor removed from his liver (which would seem like intra) which was made up of cells typically found in extrahepatic cancer!

    Hi Tiffany–
My husband was dx with cc on April 9th and had surgery at sloan on may st. we are seeing dr abou alfa (sloan) but also consulting with abby seigel at columbia pres. she is truly awesome — maybe you could have a phone consult with her? also, btw, i think those commercials are indicative of the fact that CCA are not able to exist on reputation, hence the need for commercials. praying for you!!!

Hi Kris! How about asking KAryn Goodman, the radiation onc at Sloan? another suggestion, of course, would be Abby Seigel at Columbia Pres but that might require a trip into the city. (not sure –maybe you could ask Goodman over phone, since she is a Sloan doc and can easily see the records?)

My husband (the one with CC) and I are professional jazz musicians, and we could provide music for CC fundraising events on the east coast (we live in NJ)–just a thought!!!

oh one more thing on the “faux” ice cream topic—i freeze ripe bananas and then blend 2 them with stuff like coconut milk or strawberries (or any other fruit) in the vitamix (a very powerful blender). it’s BETTER than ice cream , i swear!

    Kris–

Did Dr. Fong mention oncologist Peter Yi (Princeton) to you? They are buddies from Cornell ….maybe that’s a closer option? And that way I could come hang out with you!!!

Mparsons, that is beautiful! My husband has I-CC, but it occurred to me the other day that *I* should be living as though I have it too..in the sense living in the moment and not knowing what lies ahead! God Bless you and your family!!!!!

Kris! I’m hoping you hear the word “resection” from Dr. Fong too! We saw him this past Monday. We really love him. He was very encouraging. I went ahead and hooked us up with hepatobiliary oncologist Dr. Abou Alfa, and Fong seeming to be happy about that. Also, at the recommendation of Percy Leung (moderator on this board), I suggested that we get a radiation oncologist as well and he recommended Kathryn Goodman. I was sort of surprised that *I* had to be proactive with all this, but I’ve learned that’s what needs to be done! (I’m empathizing with your needing to remind your Drs to chat with each other!)

Lainy, I think my husband is also “steeling his mind.” Yes, that’s it. He’s a “man man” and very vert brave. The way I cope, other than praying, is to be extremely proactive. BTW Dr. Fong did my husband’s surgery! WE really like him. I believe he will be very honest with my husband about the prognosis when we see him next week. I think I’m going to have to prepare my husband for that. (All he knows is that they left some cancer in and that chemo/radiation is in order.)

thanks Lainy and Pamela! Points well taken!! I decided to fix palatable things for him that are healthy at the same time! I guess the crux of my issue is that I want to know he’s doing everything he can to fight CC, and taking this seriously…sometimes I think he still believes he’s invincible! He’s very fortunate to have had an appetite this entire time, and now that the tumor is gone he doesn’t feel any pains. so i think he’s a little complacent. I think that might change when we have the follow up visit with Dr. Fong. in a week and a half.

thank you, PCL1029–i will look into that ASAP! Also, a friend of a friend who is a GI oncologist suggested that the tumor DNA should be analyzed for mutations that may lead to personalized chemo approaches. There’s apparently someone at Sloan who does this. Have you ever heard of this?
