SpectatorI just started receiving Irinotecan & Xeloda 2 weeks ago. My oncologist told me up front that my insurance company would not approve this. So, he wrote them a letter and included supporting documentation. They approved it in less then 2 weeks. Needless to say, my oncologist was shocked that they approved it so quickly. Hang in there Janine and I believe your insurance company will approve it, eventually!

SpectatorAnd something else for you Facebook users. As you are reading the fundraiser site, “click” on the “like” button and it will post the link to your Facebook page. I did, and started sharing it with my family on their Facebook pages. Yes Grover, flyers at the Dr. Office and in the infusion center too! Are you competitive Grover? LOL! I need to start getting shape for bowling!

SpectatorMy first course of treatment (9 total) was Gemzar. And within 4 hours, I was laying on the couch with chills and shivers. Never ran a fever though. I would just cover up with a couple of blankets. They were always gone by the morning.

Spectator@ Suzanne, do you live in Avon? If so, we are practically neighbors! I live in Monrovia, which is off of I-70, 27 Miles SW of Indy. Or, 7 miles West of Plainfield and/or Mooresville. CC Cindy, I like that! @ Sue, I was thinking about maybe putting some of the fundraiser flyers out at the Simon Cancer center. Tha might spark some interest too. My husband is getting excited too. He is sure he can get his dad to bowl and maybe his mom!
And the Woodlawn Bowl @ 96th & Keystone, that is our old stomping ground. My husband and I grew up on the Northside, and I graduated from Carmel H.S. , let’s just say back in the 1970’s.
As for the press, I might be able to get a small article in the local newspaper which circulates through this area and SW Indy. There needs to be more CC awareness.
Oh,this is so exciting!
Hugs and prayers to everyone!Cindy

SpectatorSue:
What an awesome idea! My 27 year old son has been discussing possible fundraisers with others, but nothing has materialized, yet. I am sure he will jump on this one too! My husband does woodworking and I am a basket weaver. I am sure we can come up with a few raffle/auction items!
Can’t wait to hear the details so I can mark the date on my 2012 calendar!
P.S. I can’t bowlBut I will try :

SpectatorHey Grover, I was at Rural King today and meant to buy some. My first job out of high school was at Indiana Farm Bureau Co-op, in later years became Countrymark Co-op. My dream job, I worked there 24.5 years before Land O’ Lakes took over and moved it North. But, anyway, we all used to buy the udder balm and use it on our hands and feet. There was another product too, called bag balm. But I seemed to remember that it was a more greasy product.
Sorry for the history lesson!candrews
SpectatorThanks again Marion and Eli. I do tend to have thick hardened skin on my feet, so I have been loading up on the Eucerin cream at bedtime and in the morning again. Thanks Eli, as my nurse did not mention the thick hardened skin part. Just the hand and foot syndrome. I also soften up my hands at the same time!
Every little hint will help!Cindy

SpectatorGood response Marion. I am going to fight this no matter what it takes. I talked transplant & resection options with my onc. last Friday. My CT scan last month showed some suspicious lymph nodes. I didn’t understand everything he said, as my head was once again spinning. But, I believe he said a transplant would compromise my immune system. And I believe from our conversation, he does believe in transplant as an option for CC. According to the Onc. IU has done several transplants for CC patients over the years and was one of the first to do them. I truely do believe that if he thought it was an option for me, he would go for it. So, until something else comes along, I am going to fight this as hard as I can with the tools that I have at the moment.
