Grace, warmth and humor even in the darkest times. That is what I love. Sending you strength, hugs, and support.

Welcome Sunshinecaregiver….is your name a reflection of a sunny personality or where you live?

You might want to post on the introductions part so we can all get to know you. Or if you are shy, please just hang around and get all the information you need. We try to be a helpful bunch with information, but the support you will get here is equally important.

    Margaret,
Perhaps you should get Tom to a doctor with these new symptoms. Perhpas he could have an infection?

As to Hospice, I dont know a thing though my psychologist and I did discuss it this week. Again, I dont know how it is down in the US, but in Sweden, you just call the doctor and they refer you like Gavin said they do in Britain.

Hang in there. Hopefully this is just a bump in the road. If not, you have us all here.

Everyone who goes loves MD Anderson so try not to worry to much about the quality of his care.

Getting the pain under control is the first step and from my point of view the most important. I hope things become more clear in the upcoming days.

    Tom,
Welcome to the site. We are a very friendly group and like a family…so we always love to offer opinions!

There have been some people treated at Moffit, but I cant remember who. You could try doing a search on the site for Moffit and contact them directly.

Here is my opinion on chemo….it is just a chemical to be administered. Find a doctor you trust that is quite near. You often get too tired, too emotional, too stressed, too sick after a treatment. You dont need to worry about large travel on top of that. Could it be possible to have another doctor prescribe it and it be given locally? I live in the middle of nowhere Sweden. I once needed to drive over 3 hours there and back to get a chemo regime. Trust me, you dont want to do it if it can be avoided. When you dont feel good, you want to be at home, not traveling or in a hotel.

Good luck finding Ben a good doctor. Let us know how it goes.

    Welcome Gretchen!
You are very lucky to have been a candidate for resection and I am so happy you had clean margins. We will all keep our fingers crossed for clean scans from here on out.

I am the complications queen so I can identify with the one step forward, two steps back in and out of hospital hokey pokey. Things will get better, you will get stronger adn you will get chemo.

Where are you based? If you know what kind of chemo you are getting, check the chemo section for other members reactions and experiences. I am sure they will help.

    Lainy,
You know I am praying for both you and Teddy. Hang in there.

I think Teddy must be exceptionally strong. Still dancing, still doing, still walking to the neighbors. I was thinking about my cancer and how I am declining quite significantly…yet I am still ahead of the curve (like your Teddy) on survival statistics. I think the reason we have survived so long is 1) we have good doctors 2) have good attitudes 3) dont surrender 4) have incredible friends and family. When you have a cocktail of these 4 things, doctors cant really predict how long we will live. Time is getting shorter but it hasnt stopped. So keep dancing, keep laughing, keep living. You are making wonderful memories for you and keeping Teddy being Teddy as long as possible.

    Sending love and hugs.

    Marion,
I confess, I have forgotten to “keep up to date” through the loose leaf notebook. But now I am truly informed and have even spread the news of “our” new grant via facebook.

A BIG thank you to everyone who volunteers so donations can go to the foundation’s goals and not to paychecks and overhead. I bet that we would rank very high up on charities who use their money the way they should.

…..dont you like how I use “we” and “our” when describing Foundation business. The Foundation has really made this forum and its members feel a part of this group and its cause. It is truly special.

    Cale,
I remember waking up in March with that same news. IT can be heartbreaking for sure. But do not give up. There have been several members who had the same bad luck but then after chemo their tumors had shrunk enough for a successful surgery. I am now almost 2 years fighting my reoccurance. For about a year of that time, I have not had chemo for various reasons. Yes, my cancer has grown in that time, but it hasnt spread and my doctors and I are still fighting the good fight. So it is not the end, just the beginning of a different path you thought you would be taking when you went into surgery.

Have strength, courage, and laughter. Those will see you through.

Welcome to the site Justamom…though I have no answer for that question. It looks like others were able to help though…that is the beauty of this site…we all share and help each other.

    Hi Holly,
Welcome to the site. I hate cancer too. In fact, it gets me very cranky sometimes!

You have found the right place to help your MIL on her journey. In fact, I bet there will be times you either confuse or confound your doctor based on information you have learned here. And remember, knowledge is the key to fighting this disease.

Let us know how we can help you and how things go with your MIL.
