I’m glad that you were able to stablize your rib pain with the ace bandage. Maybe it is the pulled muscle that caused the pain and lucky for you that you went in to get X-rays so that you found out about the possible metasisis. It is curious that the lesions (if that’s what they are) only showed up with the X-rays but not with CT scans.
Thanks for the CiCi hints — I have a feeling that it’s applicable elsewhere.
Hugs,
GglightfootMemberThanks for the update Jeff.
You’re very strong and in tune with you body that you know that it’s time for you to take a break. Springtime is a wonderful time to garden. You know that gardeners are people who believe in the future.
Be well,

glightfootMemberPeter,
Regarding the Chinese herbs that you take, have you ever had any problems with the quality of them? I know that a few years ago, people were warned not to take them as the quality control isn’t what it should be. Did that situation change?
I’m thinking about consulting a person trained at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine — who is knowledgeable about acupuncture and traditional chinese medicine. So I’m hoping that you’ll have some insights to share.
Thanks,

glightfootMemberThanks Geoff, Joyce, and Jeff.
I appreciate your good wishes and know that I hope the best for you all in return.

glightfootMemberJeff,
What great news for you. I’m very glad to hear it and that you are tolerating your chemo regimen well.

glightfootMemberI’ve been having Gemcitabine and Carboplatin and for nausea Dexamethasone, Aloxi, and Emend. I usually experience sleeplessness or waking up after a few hours and being unable to go back to sleep for a couple of nights after the infusion. I think it may be due to the Examethasone – a steroid. But after those couple of nights, things get better.
glightfootMemberResearching more on chronotherapy, here’s a link to a mice study using Gemcitabine and Cisplatin,
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?CMD=Display&DB=pubmed — this is not displaying the address correctly– after the word “query” it should read “.fcgi?CMD=Display&DB=pubmed” — so try cutting and pasting the url together.
These are the chemo drugs I am using at this time.A related idea is having fixed-rate dose of chemo — which could be getting chemo over a longer period of time or having an infusion pump so that they try to keep a constant level of chemo in your body. http://www.biomedcentral.com/1471-2407/5/61

glightfootMemberI went through one cycle with this combination. The symptoms weren’t too bad. Unfortunately I had a potentially bad reaction to Avastin so I didn’t continue with it.

glightfootMemberMy cancer diagnosis was confusing also. Initially they found a large ~8cm mass in my liver, appendix, and omentum. The surgeons removed the appendix, right lobe of the liver, gall bladder, and a slab of th omentum. The cells in the tumor were adenocarcinama. The surgeons thought it was appendix cancer, except it wasn’t on the inside of the appendix. So, we didn’t know what kind of cancer I had. When I had a recurrence, we consulted the Mayo Cinic. They were the ones that suggested it was intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.
I just have the feeling that sometimes the doctors don’t know for sure and they have to just make a best guess and treat base on that guess.
glightfootMemberOne book that I’ve been reading that addresses this issue is A Year to Live by Stephen Levine. Some of the processes are life review, keeping a journal, gratitude, and meditation. I feel that it’s not easy but it’s important to expore this to live our lives/spend our time fully.

glightfootMemberI’ve tried ImmPower (AHCC) by American Biosciences, probably different than Immunopower for about 6 months and can’t say that it has been of benefit.
A book that’s been helpful to me is How to Prevent and Treat Cancer with Natural Medicine by Dr. Michael Murray.
Hope this helps,
G
