    Hi Barbara,

I had the sir spheres done 2 years ago and had excellent results from it. Though they weren’t able to give me the full dose because it was backing up, my liver tumors haven’t given me any problems since the procedure. They suggested that I sleep in a separate bed, though I didn’t end up doing that — my husband and I just kept to our side of our king size bed. The half life of the radiation is quite short and it doesn’t go very far in distance.

Another thing that happened, though it’s not usual is that I had vomiting after the procedure and they kept me in the hospital overnight instead of sending me home that day.

    I hope this helps,

I hope your port pain is less with the Motrin. Good-luck.

    Dear Jeff,

As always, it’s great to hear from you. Sounds like you’ve had quite the busy with with all things medical. Thanks for posting the information on the potassium/laxative connection. I’ve been wondering what’s causing my low potassium levels– Miralax, from the looks of it and I’ve been having to take potassium tablets daily. It looks like I should be more diligent about taking my potassium tablets, since I can’t forgo the laxative.

I am now picturing you chasing your grandkids around the house (sockless!)

    Hi Jeff,

I’m so glad to hear from you. Glad that you’re feeling well enough to post.

Regarding the distension, I am managing to have daily or every other day bowel movements with the help of laxatives — Miralax. The morphine as you know plays havoc with the bowels. But I am having alot of pain associated with having the BM — lower back ache, hips, & stomach cramps. The distension seems to be worst in the evening and better in the morning. I guess there’s only so much room!

Hey Lisa, Lainy, Marions, Darla, Amy and Carol,

I hope that things are going well for you all. Thanks for the good wishes and warm thoughts from everyone!

    Welcome Jane,

I have had pretty experience with chemo as well — having had Gemcitabine and Carboplatin for over 2 years. I had fatigue, low white blood counts, thinning of hair, but not the loss of hair.

While, it didn’t shrink any tumors, it’s kept the growth to a very slow level.

During one of my chemo breaks, I had radiation treatment — Sir Spheres for the liver. It’s was quite effective. I hope that you’ll get a chance to try it when your bilirubin levels get lower.

    I hope this helps,

    Hi elizabethgenovese,

Welcome! I’m so sorry to hear of your diagnosis.

It sounds like you have a good handle on dealing with the side effects — with pain meds and anti-nausea meds. The clinical trial sounds very promising. I hope you’ll keep us posted on how it is going for you.
