That’s a wonderful story and I’m pleased Bill is recovering and that your family life is returning to normal. I’m currently on chemo which is due to finish on 24th of March and subject to a positive scan, complete the Whipple at end April. The 1st attempt at the Whipple (last December) had to be aborted due to an inflammation in the pancreas. I have an internal stent fitted which is doing its job nicely. I’m aware that resection is the only cure with CC and I’m a bit worried about the delay in completing the resection. Bill experienced a similar delay (about 8-months)….were you concerned at that time? Did you get a 2nd opinion?Gerry

Good luck……your in our thoughts and prayers.hollandgMemberHi Gettingby
Thanks for taking the problem to share your “Nuggets of wisdom”…I’m taking chemo at present (Gemzar and Oxaliplatin) and have that horrible matallic taste (not nice). I’ll try the pineapple.Gerry

Welcome to this site – you will find it of great benefit as you advocate for you Mum. I would also like to share my experience in the hope it may be useful for you. Like you Mum and Lainy’s husband I also got pancreatitis following an ERCP – so its quite common but its important the inflammation clears quickly as it may delay surgery and you don’t want that. Also my surgeon took a “brushing” and not a biopsy for fear that the biopsy would seed the cancer.
Keep in touch and let us know how your doing.Gerry

That’s a great story…….thanks for sharing and good luck with recovery.Gerry
hollandgMemberIsisman…welcome to the site and congrats on the successful whipple. With CC, some of the stats are bleak but it should be remembered, the analysis is often based on old data. Essentially each patient is unique – your husband joins a growing band of patients with successful whipple’s. That’s a cause to celebrate and take positive from – as you take on the next hurdle. I face a whipple shortly and I’m interested to know how the operation went and how your husband is feeling?

Surgery is the only curative treatment for CC and having a successful whipple is a cause for great celebration – so well done. There is a great community of people on this site willing to share their experiences which will benefit you as you face your next stage of treatment.I’m on chemo now (Oxaliplatin + Gemzar) with whipple planned for March. I’m interested in how the operation went for you, how long were you recovering in hospital? How do you feel now?
Gerry

Its good to hear that you can get back to work so quickly and work part-time if necessary. Flexibility is important whether you take-up the chemo option or not. I started my 1st chemo session on Friday (oxiplatin/gemzar) at the out-patients unit. The session went very well (no major side effects) and I was able to get back to work today. I’m a banker and I get great support from work colleagues and superiors (very welcome st the moment). From talking to other patients on chemo (at the Out-patients unit), its clear that they take a sensible approach by putting their own welfare first, some work full/part-time (but that depends on their individual circumstances) and the job they do.Keep well

Welcome to this site – it has been very useful for me as patients/carers with real experience are willing to share their experience freely for the benefit of all. I’m really pleased at your successful whipple operation. I’m schuled to have a whipple in March – the first operation (in December) failed as I had pancreatitis. In the meantime I started chemo yesterday (gemzar/Oxaliplatin) to contain the tumour. The treatment went well and hopefully the side effects will be managable. I’m sorry I can’t be of help to you on the options given by you Oncologist except to say I’d be inclined to dismiss the “no treatment” option. The others options may help to ensure there is no recurrence.
Randi, my tumour is in s similar position to yor’s with no liver involvement also – No that a month has passed since your operation, I’m interested in how your feeling ? How long were you in the hospital recovering? when can you return to work? Any side-effects?Regards
Gerry
