Send your scans/reports to Dr. Chapmen at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Also you can search for him on this website and see what other people have to say about him. He seems to be a great Doctor for Liver transplants.

Sorry to hear about your husband and I wish him and your family the best.

Thanks for your reply Marions. The recovery is coming along, no major issues at this point. The surgeon and my oncologists will get together to determione which chemo(s) will used going forward.

    Rachael,

I had a Whipple on 03/26/12 at Sylvester Cancer Ctr/Jackson Hospital in Miami. My surgery took 8.5 hours and I was in the hospital 10 days after surgery. Ask your doctor for a Airlife breathing tube so you can get your lungs in the best shape for surgery. Also walk as soon and often after surgery. Lainy is correct that everybody heals at a different rate. I have very fortunate and I have had no problems from the whipple.

    Best of luck to you.

    Jim

Pak001 – You may want to look into Nanoknife surgery. It was developed for small tunors that were deemed unoperable. It’s Electroproton Ablation. My cancer came back at the surgery site and it’s to close to the portis/hepatic vein for conventional surgery so I am meeting with a radiologist next month to discuss the Nanoknife.

I have finished 5 cycles of Gemzar and Cisplatin. 2 weeks on and 1 week off. Getting ready to start #6. Loss my hair – no big deal, have been sick and have not lost weight. The biggest side effects I have are with my blood. Low WBC, RBC and platelets. I have add several shots of Neulasta and 3 Pack Red Blood Cells transfusions. Other than the above, my Doc says I’m doing OK.

    Good Luck going forward
