Hi Catherine,
Glad to hear that your mom is doing well! In terms of CA19-9, the trend is more valuable compared to a value at a single time point. The test is easy. If you and/or your mom worry, I would suggest check it again in 2 or 3 weeks. If it continues to rise, I would then talk with the Onc. Otherwise, I would just closely followup.
Best wishes to you and your mom!

lihuixuSpectatorSusie,
Thank you for sharing the WONDERFUL news. I am so happy for you and hope you continue to be well and healthy!!

lihuixuSpectatorThank you Marion and Gavin! My husband was scheduled for another ERCP today. Surprisingly the gastroenterologist came in this morning saying bilirubin level has dropped indicating the stent is working and decided to hold off the ERCP. This is a wonderful news for us so he was discharged today with antibiotics. Thank you all for your positive thoughts!!

lihuixuSpectatorErashid,
My husband had two surgeries. He recovered well from the first surgery, but it took him a long time (~6 moths) to recover from the second surgery. I agree with Marion that all of the symptoms related to digestion are probably caused by insufficient enzymes. Supplementing enzyme would be a good idea. Scar itching is expected, but the degree can vary depending on individual differences. However you should ask the doctors about her right shoulder pain.
A couple of questions – is her wound from the surgery healing well? how much liver was resected?
Keeping your mom and you in my thoughts!

lihuixuSpectatorGavin and Marion,
Thanks for your positive notes. He has not had much food due to the procedure and abdominal discomfort. The good news is he only vomited once when he had chill and fever last Thursday.

lihuixuSpectatorMy husband has been hospitalized since last Thursday. It seems the ERCP from last Friday is not working. My husband is scheduled for another ERCP tomorrow. MY FINGERS CROSSED IT WILL WORK THIS TIME!! WHY SO HARD???!!!

lihuixuSpectatorLainy and KrisV,
Thank you very much! My husband had ERCP this morning to change the stents. I am now praying he will respond well!

lihuixuSpectatorDear Marion and Lainy,
Thanks so much for your feedback. It was not pancreatitis as the enzymes are normal. On top of what’s already going on, my husband had chill, fever, and vomiting this evening. So we rushed to the ER. His bilirubin and alkaline phosphates increased, and it looks like he has cholangitis. He is now being admitted to the hospital and on iv antibiotics. Poor guy…he has gone though so much for the past several months. PLEASE no more!

lihuixuSpectatorCongratulations on successful surgery. Hope your mom recovers soon!
I want to share our experience. My husband was diagnosed with ICC in November 2010 and had surgery in December 2010. It was a single lesion (~4cm) in the left lobe at that time. He had successful surgery with clean margin followed by 6 cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy (cisplatin plus gemcitabine) 6 weeks after surgery. However, his tumor came back 4 months after he finished chemo. Recurrence of ICC is high so adjuvant chemo therapy would be a valid option. Please discuss with your onc.

lihuixuSpectatorThank you so much, Gavin and Marion!! My husband was fever free for more than 24 hours and felt better. His blood culture (48 hours) was negative so he was discharged today with PO antibiotics. However, he has been having bloating, abdominal distention/discomfort since the stent placement. He has not been able to sleep well due to these symptoms. He has tried various medications (e.g. Gas-X, Prilosec, etc.), but they did not seem helping. Could this be due to Jaundice? I wonder if anyone has experience with this. Thanks!

lihuixuSpectatorThank you, Marion! The abdominal CT showed the stents are in place without dilation of bile duct. So the gastroenterologist who put in the stents did not think it was caused by clog of the stents. However, our onc thinks he had mild cholangitis since he had no signs for any other infection that can explain the source of fever. We are confused…..

lihuixuSpectatorI wanted to update on my husband’s status. After 2 stents were placed on April 10 (his 54th birthday), total bilirubin came down some and has continued to trend down over the last 2 weeks. However, he developed fever 2 days ago. We came to the ER at 2am in the morning. They did lab workup, chest x-ray and put him on iv antibiotic. He was admitted to the hospital. The GOOD news is he has no fever for over 24 hours, and hopefully he can go home tomorrow.
Lee
lihuixuSpectatorThanks, Lainy!
The gastroenterologist did another ERCP yesterday putting two stents this time. I am praying both are working so he can get his treatment next week! My husband did not receive treatment last week due to elevated level of bilirubin.
Lee
lihuixuSpectatorDear Lainy and Gavin,
Thanks for your positive note. We hope we will have good news from the CT today. However, his total bilirubin was not decreasing after the stent placement. it was 8.4 two days ago before the stent, but it was 8.2 this morning. I am wondering if anyone has experience with this. How soon total bilirubin should go down after the stent placement?
