thanks lainy, and thanks marions i signed up with the cyberknife website you gave me. I am looking for alternatives. My dad had surgery, then it came back and we did srbt radiation. Just wondering what other options are there other then chemo. I know that it all depends where it comes back. I am just researching other alternatives in the mean time. When a new spot showed up on his liver one year after surgery, the surgeon told me that no more surgery would be done and that only chemo would be next. After 2 doses of chemo it knocked him hard where he spent a week in the hospital, and i thought the chemo would kill him. So i went on the internet searching and typed in liver specialist and my result showed a clinical trial for a new drug. So i had the surgeon’s secretary send me in for a consultation. At the consultation we were told about srbt radiation, here im thinking what is this but it sounds good. Now it is 1 1/2 years later and my dad is fine. I always wondered why no one ever told us there are other options. Now i just wonder what options are there other then chemo. I asked the oncologist if a new spot were to appear can we do srbt. She said no because his liver had enough. I figure he had the major surgery 3 years ago where half of the liver was removed. Then srbt was done on a 3.5 cm tumor. So doesnt the liver regrow and rebuild. I now take lainy’s advice and get more opinions . Thanks for your support
marco1SpectatorThanks Lainy and marions for your reply. After my father had his major surgery, a new spot showed up one year later. The surgeon told us that he couldnt operate because it spread, and that chemo was the next stage. I always wondered if they considered him a write off and figured that it spread so he would be on a time sentence. Here in canada this is also covered by the goverment so i also believe the goverment cant fund everyone so how the surgeon spoke was we had our surgery and it came back, they didnt want to continue. Now 1 1/2 years later i asked the oncology doctor(cyberknife specialist) if a new spot were to appear can we zap it. I was told no because he had haver his liver cut out and they used cyberknife for the new tumor. Once again i wonder if she is write that my dads liver coulnt handle another cyberknife, or is this another goverment funding issue. Marion are there cases that cyberknife was done more then once
thanks marcomarco1SpectatorHi gavin my father had radiation done do his liver, if there was a new spot can radiation be done a second time on the new lession. are there any other things that could be done other then chemo. thanks marco
marco1SpectatorHi my father had this treatment and that was 1 and 1/2 years ago. My father also had a new spot on his liver a year after resection. just wondering why they dont go in and resect them. Best of luck marco
marco1SpectatorHi Genevieve, just wondering how the surgeon removes the tumor is it a small incision or a big surgery, They told me that when my father had a new tumor on his liver, that they couldnt remove it thru surgery and didnt tell me why not. I always felt that they could remove it but living in canada and having a health care system, that its a money issue. Glad things are going well best of luck marco
marco1SpectatorHi i also am from ontario and just wondering if you had a appointment at princess margaret. My father had srbt radiation after his klatskins tumor returned 1 year later.

I just realized that i had posted the same question twice and never read your response. Thank you for your response i mostly spend my time reading post learning as much as i can. My father had the srbt about six months ago we went in yesterday and the tumor is not showing up on the mri so i hope it is gone forever. I live in canada and i see we have different treatments, i asked the onc yesterday about y90 and he didnt know of it. I asked about resection twice and they said we will see what happens in the future. I see you did microwave ablation and it went well, what dose that procedure do and is that tumor destroyed. I think srbt is like cyber knife just wondering if you can have that procedure. I wish you the best and enjoy the holidays

You mentioned that teddy had the cc in the liver at the end, just wondering where he had the original cc. My father had bile duct c which they called it klatskins. Is there a difference of these c . thanks marco
November 22, 2013 at 3:22 am in reply to: New member, father was diagnosed with klatskins tumor #77189marco1Spectatorwhen someone gets told the bad news, I guess that person feels like it is a death sentence. As a son i feel how could i help, but as my father was told 2 weeks later he is in surgery. then it was good news but 1 year later it came back. 2 weeks after that we did 2 doses of chemo, then 2 months later we did the radiation treatment. So talking to people like yourself is great, because the other side of people, surgeons, onc, etc really dont know how to. So it is great that you continue to be part of this family. Im not familiar to this site but any info that you mentioned about second surgerys i would like to know, if there are facts or other members that have had this experience i would like to send them a message(how to find). I believe that if my father had half of his liver removed, and now there is a small cc on the top of the liver why cant they cut it out. This is my quest i would even take him to the united states if it would be done. Of course this is my theory, now i need the facts to determine if im right or wrong. Thanks Lainy for your support
November 21, 2013 at 6:51 pm in reply to: New member, father was diagnosed with klatskins tumor #77187marco1SpectatorHi Lainy 8 years have past and you are on here, god bless you for helping all us with your experience. My father had a tumor in his bile duct 2 years ago the surgeon removed half of his liver, gallbladder, lymth nodes. Everything was removed and no sign of cc. one year later the scan showed a tumor on the top of his liver(section . The surgeon said operating on the liver is not good a second time, and that the original cancer had spread. So here in canada everything is covered by the goverment. So i feel that maybe because my dad is old they dont want to fund any more money on him because the cancer had spread. Lainy have you heard of anyone having gone in again in the liver to remove another tumor, basically a second surgery. I feel that the tumor is on the top of his liver so why cant they go in and cut it out. My father had srbt radiation. It sounds like cyberknife. The onc are able to hit the tumor directly with radiation, without touching good tissue. We find out the results in december. So after teddy had the cyberknife the scan showed nothing in that spot, and two years later it appeared back in the same spot. thanks lainy
November 21, 2013 at 1:38 am in reply to: New member, father was diagnosed with klatskins tumor #77185marco1SpectatorHi Lainy i was wondering when teddy did the cyber knife rad how did the scan show was the tumor gone, or was it there but didnt grow for 2 years. Any info on that experience would be helpful. thanks marco
November 21, 2013 at 1:30 am in reply to: Has anyone had surgery on there liver more then once to remove a tumor #77225marco1SpectatorHello thanks for your thoughts i appreciate the feedback. My dad did do the radiation treatment in which we will find out the results. I was hoping they could go in and remove the spot in his liver, the surgeon said they dont operate twice on the liver because it has already been cut in half and its not as strong when it grows back, also because the cancer spread from the original spot. So i felt that maybe because he is 75 that they right you off, especially because the surgery is paid by the goverment. I will see about talking to other surgeons to get different feedback. thanks marco
November 15, 2013 at 4:43 pm in reply to: New member, father was diagnosed with klatskins tumor #77183marco1SpectatorThank you everyone with your thoughts, i found this website by accident and im happy i did. I dont know how to respond back but lainy it sounds like the treatment my father had was like what teddy did( cyber knife). My father had srbt which is they zapped his tumor with precision radiation. After the cc returned just wondering why the cyber knife couldn’t be done to teddy again. everyone have a great weekend, Marco
marco1SpectatorSorry to hear, i feel we are in the same shoes my fathers cancer came back a year later. How long was your husband doing the chemo for. While doing the chemo was he ok. I dont know if my father should do the chemo i believe it will only shorten his life and make his days worse. Being thru this experience what advise would you give. Enjoy every good day with your husband and i will keep him in my prayers, marco
