Melissa,
This board has helped me so much with advice for my daughter.
I hope you get all the support you need to get your game plan together.
Thinking of you
mumhazelSpectatorThanks to Lainey and Marions for replying, I don’t know what I would do without your support.
Andrea is trying to do too much and her body is just not up to it, she is also losing weight as she does not feel hungry.
On Saturday, Andrea had a temperature and so went to Christie’s to be checked over, her bloods were checked for any infection but they came back clear.
She goes to Christie’s again on Thursday to get her bloods checked to ascertain what strength her next chemo tablets will be.
Her doctor has given her E45 cream for her hands and feet.
mumhazelSpectatorAndrea has now taken 2 courses of the chemo tablets and is now experiencing nausea and diarrhoea. as well as the dry and hot skin on her hands and feet.
She is feeling very tired too, but I assume this is only to be expected.
mumhazelSpectatorGavin those links are great, they seem to cover everything, I am sure Andrea will find them very useful.
She is still managing to run her business, run a home and look after her 3 kids, so she is doing very well.
mumhazelSpectatorAndrea has nearly completed her second course of chemo tablets.
Her skin is very dry especially on her hands and her feet and it is making it painful to walk. She is using E45 cream to try to keep them moisturised.
She says they feel like they are on fire and wonders if putting them in iced water would help
mumhazelSpectatorHi Lainey, I will tell Andrea about Biotene,
Gavin did you forget to give me the link to the mouth ulcers?
Sandie thank you so much for your post, I will pass your comments to Andrea, up to now she will not come on any discussion board, nor will she come to read them! Maybe it is her way of coping?
So sorry I have not posted for ages, but I have been staying with Andrea and I did not have my log in information with me.
mumhazelSpectatorAndrea is coping well with her first week of taking chemo tablets.
Professor Valle even telephoned her to check on her progress. She is very impressed with him and their conversation seemed to inspire her.
Up to now she has had one mouth ulcer which bled a little onto her pillow.
Her skin has gone very dry so she is using lots of moisturising cream.
January 22, 2016 at 10:05 pm in reply to: broccoli contains sulforaphane, which might help cancer patients? #91282mumhazelSpectatorHi Gavin. Andrea is still going to Juice the broccoli but she wants me to feel the benefits of brocolli and spirulina too.
I am not willing to juice the broccoli so instead I am going to try the tablets, I am not sure I can drink the spirulina but I will give it a go.
I am currently looking into the benefits of using 100% pure lavender oil, yet again it seems to be a cure all.
It is anti viral, anti bacterial, anti fungal, enables people to sleep, relax, cures coughs, colds, cold sores and maybe helps with dementia. These are just a few of the claims.
I can try it on my cold sores and if it cures my cough and cold and helps me to relax then I am on to a winner.

Maybe because I need to believe there is a miracle cure?
But she does look so healthy so it is worth giving it a go, if only to please Andrea.
January 22, 2016 at 10:30 am in reply to: broccoli contains sulforaphane, which might help cancer patients? #91277mumhazelSpectatorHi, Lainy. There are lots of foods and drugs that claim to help cancer sufferers and they seem to have valid chemical properties, like cannabis. But why is there not more research into them, as they surely are cheaper than developing more invasive drugs?
Andrea looks amazing and wants me to try taking spirulina and broccoli juice, mainly because I am run down with this cold.
I could not be bothered juicing broccoli heads each day and it takes ages to clean the machine so I am opting for the tablet form of sulforaphane, which is the main active ingredient in brocolli.
I normally buy my health products from Boots chemist or Holland & Barrett health food stores but sulforaphane is not available over the counter from them or any other UK supplier as far as I can tell. Very strange?
So I have had to order the capsules on-line, which I don’t like doing. The company making them is Swanson GreenFoods, which I hope is a trustworthy company.

January 21, 2016 at 10:36 pm in reply to: broccoli contains sulforaphane, which might help cancer patients? #91275mumhazelSpectatorHi Gavin, Andrea has not had any problems so far but of course it is early days yet.
I have been researching sulforaphane and it seems to be a cure all panacea.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:-
Basic research on sulforaphane includes study of mechanisms for neurodegenerative disorders, cancer, spinal cord injury and gastric diseases .I do not fancy juicing broccoli so I am going to try the tablet version and will let you know how I get on.
mumhazelSpectatorHi, Lainy. Day one and she has no adverse effects
As advised by her specialist she has stopped taking the spirulina, but is continuing with juicing the broccoli and vegetables for her breakfast, she has organic porridge for lunch and eats vegetable and quorn stews for her evening meal. She has not eaten meat since she was 5 years old but does eat fish.
She would love to exercise again but is scared of damaging the scar tissue, so for now is only walking.
Anyone know what exercises she could do to keep her core muscles in shape ?
January 20, 2016 at 9:30 pm in reply to: broccoli contains sulforaphane, which might help cancer patients? #91273mumhazelSpectatorLainy, how true your words are. My daughters and their children are the most precious people in the world to me, and when they hurt, I feel it too.
My mum is 86 years old and she still tells me off as if I was a little child, once a mum, always a mum.
Andrea starts taking her first chemo tablets today, fingers and toes are crossed that she does not have too many adverse reactions. Her bloods were all green, so she has been prescribed the highest dose of capecitabine.
Maybe the juice and spirulina have helped?
mumhazelSpectatorThe CAT scan my daughter had on Thursday is CLEAR, and her bloods are all GREEN, so the chemo tablets for the first treatment can be the highest dosage.
She has taken the first tablet this evening and as yet we don’t know what her reaction will be or how soon to expect anything to happen.
She is dreading getting diarrhoea and fears going out but maybe there are pants to wear just in case this happens.
I go back on Sunday, hopefully my cough and cold will be better by then as I don’t want to give her any germs.
