My sister currently is on gemzar and xeloda and it has shrunk her tumors in her liver and her lymph nodes. It has not affected the tumors in her bones, they are unchanged. But her tumor markers are also down. She has had 3 treatments of this so far and I just thank God that her tumors have not spread.
tanolandMemberLisa, that is really sad. My sister’s cancer has metastasized to her bones and lymph nodes and other organs but she is doing gemzar and xeloda and we just did her first CT scans and it has shrunk some of the tumors.
She had 3 treatments and then we did the CT Scans. It was very encouraging so we are continuing on with that treatment. I wish it was the same for you and I have no idea why it works for some people and not others.
Where has your mother’s cancer metastasized to? And did they say how long she has? They gave my sister less than a year even with chemo.
tanolandMemberYes, we have been to the Mayo Clinic. And now she is getting treatment at KU. Mayo gave her the exact same treatment plan that KU had.
It has not entered her pancreas so I guess that is why. It’s everywhere else of course. But not there.
Thanks for your help.
tanolandMemberIt looked like a scam to me, but just wondering what other people thought. Thank you very much.
tanolandMemberMy parents are desperate and wanting to raise thousands and thousands of dollars to send my sister there. I don’t want to do that if he is not legitimate. I called and they don’t give you much information on the phone. They just want you to come there.
tanolandMemberThat is so weird to read. I read every post on here looking for something for my sister and when I read your dad had shingles, that is exactly how we found out my sister had this horrible disease. She had a pain in her side and they thought it was shingles. Unfortunately it was a tumor on her liver.
tanolandMemberThey do have her on oxycontin but she said the pain is constant. Not severe, but constant. And the pain meds do help. It’s hard to believe we just started this process and it is getting worse so fast. I appreciate everything you said and will take it to heart. You have really helped. I will keep supporting her and telling her I love her no matter what. Because no matter what I am going thru, it’s completely unimaginable what she is feeling.
tanolandMemberMy sister used to be the kindest, funniest, most loving person I have ever met. And ever since February, when this was found, she has completely changed. No sense of humor, no smiles, no happiness. NO matter how hard we try. And we try really hard. I have a large very tight knit family who is full of faith and love God and we are just completely lost on what to do.
tanolandMemberYou are just living your life perfectly fine and life is wonderful and then your whole world is turned upside down. My sister’s has spread in so many places so fast, I just worry how much time we will have. And she is in constant pain. I try to be a support to her, but she’s not really wanting any support. She’s so angry. I love her so much.
Christina, it’s nice to hear that your fiance is doing good in his fight. Let’s pray for everyone else to do the same!
tanolandMemberMy sister is 41 and it is spreading so fast. We did start Chemo Monday but I don’t have much hope for it. In the 3 weeks since she went to Mayo they found it has spread to her ovaries.
This is the most aggressive cancer I have ever seen in my life. I am so sorry for all of you and for me. It really makes me hate life right now.
tanolandMemberI am grateful for finding this site. It’s nice to have people to give you advice and understand where you are coming from. Before she was diagnosed with this I had never heard of this disease before. And now it has consumed our lives.
Thank you guys for your support.
tanolandMemberMy sister started her chemo yesterday with gemzar and xeloda. She is really scared. She also found out since her last cat scan it has now spread to her ovaries. That was like in the last 2 to 3 weeks. So now it’s in her liver, rib and hip bone, her spine, lymph nodes and now her ovaries. This sucks! I knew it was aggressive but had no idea it could just keep spreading that fast.
I’m trying to be positive and hope that this chemo works. But it’s really hard.
tanolandMemberJeff, you are a great source of information but I am really sorry for everything you are going through. And so positive. Thank you for being so helpful.
tanolandMemberOk. I understand. It has spread to her bones and her lymph nodes. So I am sure that is why they never brought up the other stuff. No matter how many times I talk about it and try to absorb it, it does not seem real. I’m not sure I will ever really believe that when I am researching this and talking about it, that I am really talking about my sister Shirley. That cannot be real. This has to be a nightmare.
In all reality, I am sure her cancer is too far gone for them to do anything except Chemo and that is why that is all they are doing.
Thanks again.
tanolandMemberI did find out that my sister will be taking gemzar and xeloda. I hope she handles that well. I’m really nervous for her.
