Dutch,
Welcome! My husband had failed surgery last July, then 10 mos. of gemzar. He just had a liver resection 1 week ago which came out well. Never give up!
AnnewabalsMemberDebrah,
I know the feeling! I think we all do. I will pray that your results are good. Just put it in God’s hands and try not to worry too much.
AnneJuly 14, 2008 at 2:26 pm in reply to: Weakness and lack of appetite – how do you get back your strength? #20846wabalsMemberPauline,
There is a medication called megace which stimulates appetite. My husband took it last year and it worked pretty well. Also, try small amounts of food, fluid several times a day, rather than a meal 3 times a day. Supplements like ensure are good too. Good luck and God bless.
AnnewabalsMemberMarion,
Thankyou so much.
AnnewabalsMemberSophie,
I am so sorry to hear you were not able to have the surgery. Never give up hope tho. As you know, we went thru that a year ago, and Tues. my husband did have successful surgery. I will keep you in my prayers.
AnnewabalsMemberMy husband had an aborted surgery 1 year ago,, and we were told he was terminal. Then we went to Johns Hopkins and had Gemzar for 10 months. Today I brought him home from Johns Hopkins after successful ressection of his liver. We have no guarantee that there will not be a recurrence even though there is no sign of cancer today. His surgeon said that he is “off the radar” in terms of being able to give a prognosis. What do we do? Pray and thank God for every day we have. After all, we are all terminal. God bless.

We are on our way to Hopkins today for surgery. Scarey isn’t it? Faith in God sustains us tho. i will pray for you and your hubby.
AnnewabalsMemberYou guys are all inspirational! I hope my husband does as well. He has surgery tomorrow at Hopkins. Please pray for us.
AnnewabalsMemberHeather,
My husband was told the same thing. Then we went to Johns Hopkins. He got Gemzar for 10 mos. and responded miraculously. (His oncologist’s words) Tomorrow he will have a liver resection at Hopkins. Last year he was an “open & close”. Faith in God is the best treatment tho. Never lose it! Best to you and your dear husband.
AnnewabalsMemberGemzar works about 20% of the time. Does not sound like much, unless you are in the 20% which my husband is. Worth a try.
wabalsMemberCarrieann,
Bless your heart. You will be in my prayers, as will your Mom and family. Do not give up hope. Duke is a wonderful hospital. Check with their social service dept. for financial aid. Pharmaceutical companies also have programs to help.
AnnewabalsMemberMarions,
Thankyou so much.
AnnewabalsMemberMy husband had no real symptoms either. It was found accidentally. His labs have been normal and the ca-19-9 ( the cc tumor marker) was slightly elevated) God bless you and watch over you at your surgery. Think positively and pray!
wabalsMemberGemzar shrunk my husband’s tumor from 8cm to 2.5cm. He was on it for 10 mos., once a week for 3 weeks, then off 1 week. Side effects were tolerable, mostly fatigue and some chills, aches and pains. To me it is a wonder drug. It does seem to make a difference in that the longer the time of infusion, the more potent the drug. Clinical trials that I read had infusion over 30 min. My husband had 1800 mgs over 90 min. He goes to Johns Hopkins- Dr. William Sharfman. He is having surgery Tues. Please pray for him.
AnnewabalsMemberDear Sophie,
You and your family are in my prayers. It is a roller coaster of emotions. Faith in God, family, and friends are what get us through. God bless.
