    Teresa,

I too am glad to hear that hospice is coming today and they will help take good care of your mum. I am happy as well to hear that you were able to share your birthday with your mum and I know how much that would have meant to you both. My thoughts are with you and your mum right now and you know as well that we are all here for you too.

    Hugs,

    Gavin

Dear Teresa, what a great Birthday gift! I am glad Hospice is coming as it will ease things up for you and you will be able to spend time with your Mom sharing love and going over Memories. She had a goal in mind to make it for your Birthday and she is a very strong woman to have her goal met. A belated Happy Birthday to you.

My mom made it on my birthday, it was a really hard day. She did have a blood transfusion on Thursday. But she stopped eating for 3 days. She is getting real weak and a feel time is near. I love her so much and know how much she loves me. Hospice is coming today. she has put out a big fight for this cancer. Please pray for her today.

    My mom’s little sweetie, Teresa

    Golden Girl –
I would ask about Miracle Mouthwash. It usually has some sort of topical anesthetic in it which will help with the sores. My husband used it a little when he was on his 5FU chemo….his throat got a little sore and made it difficult to swallow. Also since she has taken antibiotics and her lower immune system you may want to ask about thrush. It is a very common side effect of both. They have an oral Nystatin that you can swish and swallow or a troche that you suck on like a candy. Definitely ask docs about both.
As for the stomach cramps I am wondering out loud if maybe she had a GI infection of some sort and the antibiotics helped with it. It’s hard to say especially if they can’t find the source,

Golden Girl…..Our KrisV mentioned Magic mouthwash for treatment of mouth sores (oral mucositis) caused by some forms of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. We also have reports on lemon drops as well as biotene gum and mouthwash. I hope for something to work for your Mom.

My mom is doing pretty good today, the cramping stopped last night. We are still in the hospital for 2 more days. She is in need of the IV antibiotics. Just noticed she has mouth sores which I’m assuming is from the chemo treatment. Don’t really know why she had an infection but glad she looks good and feels good.

    Happy cells kills cancer cells!

    Thanks Marion and Gavin.

    Golden Girl,

Just thinking out loud here with regards to the cramping that your mum has been experiencing. I had severe cramping in my stomach, abdomen and my sides a few years ago, none of it cancer related and it turned out that I had a gastric ulcer and was bleeding in my gut. I don’t know if this is relevant to your mum but as I said I’m just thinking out loud here and wondered if your mums docs had or are looking at that being a possibility for her cramping? My cramping got so bad it was agony and my stools went real black. Do you know if your mums stool colour has changed or is black etc?

    Hugs,

    Gavin

Golden Girl…..good to hear that it stopped. Cramping (most often is related to the lack of bowel movement, but it has been reported for other reasons as well i.e. response to chemo, iron deficiency, etc. The “Search” function is our hidden treasure. By entering key words such as “cramping” many discussions pop up and almost always do we reveal an answer to our questions. Other than that how is your Mom fairing today?

My mom is having abdominal spasams, they were so bad that we went to the hospital. That same day she had a blood transfusion and by the time we got back home she just didn’t feel right. Her wbc was low and they said she had infection. They have given her antibiotics in IV and her wbc is now normal. She is still having cramping in her abdomen but it is not as intensive as it was before. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this cramping like spasm.
She also had her 2nd treatment of chemo on New Years Eve. Her blood transfusion was Friday.
So glad to be with my mom, just want this new symptom to go away.
Thanks so much to be apart of this site.

    Hi Golden Girl,

Thanks for the update on your mum and I am glad to hear that she has started her chemo and that she is doing well with it. Loads of positive thoughts are coming your way from over this side of the pond and I hope that the chemo does it’s job. My fingers are crossed for your mum.

My best wishes to you and your mum,

    Gavin

My mom had her first chemo on Thursday. So far she is doing so good. Her doctor called today to check on her. He is wonderful. I’m so thankful for this site. Thanks for being such a caring and inspiring group. Her 2 nc treatment is next week.

Golden Girl…. Already you are aware that this disease is difficult to detect and based on the disease presentation, various options may or may not be available. In order to help you understand, the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation in conjunction with Dr. Albou-Alfa is presenting a biliary book:
Free complimentary Book or e-mail download:
    http://cholangiocarcinoma.org/news/foundation-resources/
As your Mom has stents, it is important to have on hand the biliary emergency card.
Biliary drainage – stent information card
    http://cholangiocarcinoma.org/biliary-emergency-information-card/
Additionally, you may want to register and therefore be able to read up on the de-identified information of others:
    The International Cholangiocarcinoma Registry
    http://cholangiocarcinoma.org/professionals/research/patient-registry/
We are in this together – we are here to help.
    Hugs,
    Marion

How do you know surgery is possible? My mom starts chemo this week. She is so important to me, I just want to do everything to make her better. Today is 4 months since she was diagnosed.
