You know my husband wants to know exact dates about everything which makes it hard when the answer is wrong. A psychiatrist once said that Navy pilots can only function by putting issues into little black boxes in order to do their critical jobs. If they were distracted by a family matter for instance they may not be able to concentrate on their flying as carefully as they should. My point in saying this is that there are times when no one can answer the question and we have to learn to live with that uncertainty. If you knew the answer would you live your life differently? Or would you take the days and live them with more joy as each one is precious? And tell every friend and family member how dear they are to you and what they have added to your life…….
charleaSpectatorLainy, I couldn’t even learn enough about knitting to make two left sleeves! Most of what I do I do for fun so if it’s stressful I find something else to create. And then I give it to my friends! That can be a positive or negative…..
One of my pastels is on my Facebook page as my picture. I don’t know enough about computers yet to put my picture there. I learn a little about a few things to be dangerous.charleaSpectatorHi All, no blood clot, the leg continues to swell but it is bearable so onward I go! Was able to do housework today and now am getting ready to work on some paintings I had started earlier on before the diagnosis. I have an appointment later today with my orthopedic surgeon so maybe he’ll have some ideas about the swelling. Thank you for your good wishes.
CharleacharleaSpectatorI cannot understand why a doctor would not have come and discussed this decision with his patient. I hope you have good success in finding another oncologist who spends the time to share his reasoning and give support when giving such a hard prognosis.
charleaSpectatorWell, I am home from the hospital after surgery which went well. However, leave it to a nurse to have a unique problem which in my case was a massive skin reaction to the binder used to hold the dressings in place. Redness, blisters and draining areas from chest to knee! Fortunately it isn’t painful and it is distracting from the surgical pain. I am just getting ready to go back to the hospital because my leg is swelling more than expected so they suspect a clot. I’ll have an ultrasound and be on my way. The up side to all this was the wonderful care I got at the hospital with the chance to see a lot of old friends I used to work with. When or if I have to go into hospice there I will go with a sense of caring that is so comforting.
Will report more later. Thanks to the good words of support.
CharleacharleaSpectatorIt is so wonderful to hear your news. Amidst the sad news there is light provided by this post as we all look for some positive outcomes in others. Please keep posting.
March 10, 2011 at 4:17 am in reply to: Not CC but Cholangiolocarcinoma (CLC). What the F is this? #48416charleaSpectatorThank you, Roslyn, for sharing this information. Maybe there will be someone out there desperate for information on this extremely rare form of liver cancer. All of this seems so incredibly complicated for the lay person to understand and I’m sure even some physicians find it over their heads. That’s why this site is so important to us all. It smooths the way to understanding what a formidable enemy this is and gives us the information and courage to fight and fight and fight until we can no longer.
charleaSpectatorMelanie, Marion is right. Seeing a doctor when something changes may help you avoid days of worry. It is so easy to think everything is due to CC when we get the old run-of-the-mill diseases as well. I hope this has resolved so you can enjoy your time together.
charleaSpectatorTomlee, I have had a PET scan which did not light up my abdominal lymph nodes that were evident on CAT scan. I had an MRI which allowed my doctors to see the enlarged ducts that couldn’t be seen any other way. For me the CAT scan has been the best follow up test to see if there is growth or spread.
charleaSpectatorLily, what makes this site extra special is that those who have lost family or friends continue to come back and support all of the others.
charleaSpectatorAndie, there are some anti-anxiety drugs being given to older people that actually cause agitation, Ativan being one of them. It may be one of the drugs your dad is receiving. I feel so badly for you knowing how difficult it is to watch a formerly loving father change so drastically. Pain all by itself and so many medications can do this to a person. My prayers are with you and your mother as you try to give the best care you can. Charlotte
charleaSpectatorIsn’t that the greatest news one could get! It sounds as though your dad is getting great care in that they were addressing the issue so quickly that you had little time to worry. Makes us aware that we need to keep up our positive attitude until we have something proven otherwise…hard to do though when it’s a loved one or ourselves.
I am so happy for you both.charleaSpectatorZiggydog, it appears that you have been on this site just a very short time, hardly time to get your mind around what is happening to your husband and here you are facing what will be a great loss to you and your daughter. I am so sorry that you are having to endure this. You will need your daughter as much as she will need you. She is so young to lose her dad. I hope you were able to pack as many good memories in as was possible. May God accompany you on this sad journey.
charleaSpectatorMayra, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Every time you look at that little girl of yours you will see Eddie reflected in her face and what a wonderful way to remember him. Lainy was able to fill her days after Teddy’s passing so reading her posts again may help. The loneliness is so painful, I know, especially if you were taking care of him at home. Please remember to do things for yourself and your daughter that your husband would want you to do. Love to you both in your new journey.
CharlotteFebruary 4, 2011 at 4:46 am in reply to: Just had the big “6-0” Birthday – 3.5yrs and going strong! #45629charleaSpectatorHi Patty,
I too have the “slow growing” CC according to my oncologist. I have a large tumor in my left lobe and at least two enlarged lymph nodes in my abdomen. I have been taking 10,000 IU of Vitamin D3 for several years for my MS but I think it may have been slowing my CC as well as there have been studies recently that show D3 is beneficial in conjunction with treatment. I wish you continued good news in the coming years and look forward to your next report. God bless you and everyone who fights this battle day by day.
