Hi Carlos,
Like Marion I am wondering what the blood tests showed. My sister was not ‘obviously confused’ but I am in no doubt she was subtely confused on some level – she had a vacantness about her too. I never really got anyone medical to address it properly. At times I put it down to morphine, at times is was definately due to infection. Most of the time I could not put my finger on it. I recently met a nurse who specialised in Hepatic ITU and she was in no doubt it was due to raised ammonia levels which the minute she said it made perfect sense to me.
claremSpectatorHi Alison,
I just wanted to welcome you also to the board. It takes some guts to come here in the first place and posting can be hard so well done to you.
As you have seen first hand, the support here is staggering and someone always come along to answer or offer support. x
claremSpectatorHi Gavin,
You are your dad’s double! Sending you lots of thoughts and a virtual rubbish joke.

claremSpectatorHappy birthday to your mum.

claremSpectatorHi Carlos,
Infection (amongst other causes) can cause confusion. I would tell the doc.
claremSpectatorHi Michelle,
This must be incredibly hard for you all. You are not being selfish – of course you don’t want to lose him. Willow and Lainy are right – hospice can help him and you. He can be pain free and also get relief from any other symptoms that could cause him and you any distress. Supporting you through this is so important. My sister refused hospice care but with her GP and district nurse we managed at home and once we got her onside with controlling her pain, she relaxed a little. She didn’t realise the pain she was in until it was gone. Hospice will have many different ways in which they can help.

claremSpectatorHi Stacie,
Welcome to the forum although I am sorry that you have had to come here. I echo what Lainy said about a second opinion, know all the facts and then your Mum can make a decision on whether she wants more treatment or not. You are in the best place for answers and support, whatever decision is made.
claremSpectatorHi Suzanne,
I am so pleased you are making some progress now.
claremSpectatorOh Susanne this is great news. Keep on it and I so hope our weather stays calm for you so you can get to Aberdeen.
claremSpectatorHi Kerry,
Welcome to the site and thank you for sharing your experience with us. This site is incredible and there is always some one who can answer a query or offer support. I always think the support ‘buck’ stops somewhere and for you, I imagine your mum supports your Dad, you support your mum and you stay ‘strong’ for everyone above you. I couldn’t have got through the last year without this site taking some of the burden off me and listening when I didn’t know where else to turn for advice.
claremSpectatorMy sister had portal vein embolisation to grow the part of her liver that was to be left behind after her resection. It did not grow as much as they hoped but it did increase. I’m sorry I can’t comment more as to if they can repeat the procedure or what the alternatives are.
claremSpectatorHi Susanne,
Vent away. I am glad that you got things moving and plan in place with Professor Vale. I’d like to think that he will drive this now and as Gavin said the other consultants will take their lead from him.
claremSpectatorWillow,
What an amazing lady to have as a friend. Thinking of you, your sister and Martha very much tonight.
claremSpectatorDear Sheedy,
I am so sorry that your dad has passed – you must miss him terribly.

claremSpectatorDear Cristerry,
I am so sorry that your husband has died. There is little I can say but I will keep you in my thoughts. x
