Dear Kris,
I don’t know if this will help or not but my husband is in the same position as you – not on Xeloda (due to infection) and he was informed of lymph node involvement and spots on the liver which we were told meant that the CC has metastisized to his liver…to make a long story short – the lymph nodes lit up on the PET because of the recent invasive procedures in his liver/bile duct and the liver spots came from an infection. One doctor told us that it was 99% metastisis – now 2 weeks later we’re back on track. (although like you, we’re waiting on chemo). Like you, he felt great. You sound like a very positive person with a happy and full life. you’ll do just fine without the Zoloft. Tough times and my thoughts and prayers are with you. You’re not alone in this fight and we’re all with you.
Warmest wishes,
DanielledanielleSpectatorHi Rose,
My husband has an external stent and three internals – two days ago he crained 1200 cc’s. The reason he has three to allow drainage etc. He also had an infection. I don’t know why your bilirubin is up, what did the doctors say? It’s normal for the stents to stop working (my husband’s first stent lasted 4 weeks, the 2nd one lasted a week, these ones put in yesterday so we’ll see). My point is, stent difficulty is normal and is not always a sign of the tumour’s growth. My husband’s CC is not resectable. He is hopefully going to go on the liver transplant list.My thoughts are with you.
Danielle
danielleSpectatorMichelle,
I agree with Kirsten’s comments. May I also add that the stent may need to be changed – this is totally normal, they usually don’t last for more than 5 weeks (unless they’re permanent). For example, my husband’s first stent lasted 4 weeks, the second stent 3 days and now is on the 3rd (well, actually, he has 4 – 3 internal and 1 external). If the stent is blocked/not working (which is normal) it can lead to infection. This happened to my husband (enterobactor cloacae) – he’s back in hospital as a result .
Keep pushing the doctors, i.e. express concern that if the stent is blocked that it may lead to infection.
danielleSpectatorDear Michelle,
My husband’s symptoms were identical to your Dad’s. I am not an expert but it could be a blockage in the bile duct that is causing the jaundice and other symptoms. As soon as a stent was put in the bile duct, the jaundice disappeared and he returned to normal (aside from CC). I agree with all the other posts above – especially the post regarding admision to the hospital at the earliest opportunity. Be pushy/polite.
Good luck and my thoughts are with you.danielleSpectatorDear Hollie and Sophie,
My warmest wishes and best thoughts are to both you. Xeloda (with a US doctor prescription) can be purchased legally and above board in Canada for a fraction of the price through the internet, mailed to your home – there are many companies just make sure that you pick one approved by Canada Health. I am Canadian (my husband is Aussie) but he’s being treated for CC in USA as it’s the best place in the world for treatment. Mayo Phoenix is doing some drug trials for CC which have had some encouraging results.Hang in there.
Danielle
PS – in Australia for example, the patient pays 32.60 (as opposed to 4000) for a course of Xeloda…but only for breast and colon cancer…
danielleSpectatorHi Patsy,
My husband had the exact situation – bad infection, tried a bunch of different anti-biotics and none worked. The doctors could not pinpoint the source nor type of infection. Yesterday, found out the infection was enterobactor cloacae, in the blood and liver. He has had an ongoing issue of his bile duct blocking – that caused the infection. He was given Levoquin and the infection is clearing. His fever peaked at 105.6….
Good luck.
Warm wishes,
Danielle -
