SpectatorI like to say I study my poop like it holds the key to peace in the middle east! I even make Hans look at it sometimes. Poor man.

SpectatorJeff,
I have been wondering how Marc was doing, glad you are back to update us.Surgery is scaring, but from my perspective worth the risk. Lets hope the surgeon thinks he can get it all and that for Marc cc is just a memory.
Good luck.

SpectatorTry to appeal the decision against folfox-it is a common treatment for cc and I dont quite understand how they could not cover it.
As to the hip pain, I used to get all sorts of pains in my hip and rib bones. We finally figured out that it was likely the result of how I now walk and sleep. Because of cancer and surgical pains, I no longer hold my body the same way and it is likely causing stress on other areas. Ask your mom if she could be possibly doinig this.
As to getting tired of fighting….ALL PATIENTS (I dont care how positive you are) will have these moments. The treatments themselves are tiring, but the emotional stress is equally bad if not worse. It can really wear you down. I have often thought of throwing in the towel after something seemingly mild such as3 doctors appointments in a week just pushed me over the edge. I think I felt like I was living for cancer, not living with cancer. I got through that with the help of my every wonderful husband who tried to make things “fun” and focusing on stuff I could do. For example, we went to movies because all I needed to do was sit. I planted stuff in the garden after Hans did all the hard work…again a job I could do sitting. Taking back part of who I was before gave me the strength to fight some more. Think of those things to do for and with your mom. LIVING is important in the fight.
Hugs,

SpectatorI too got my reoccurance at original tumor site. I didnt have chemo or radiation…boy I wish I had then I would not have to question the what ifs.

SpectatorWElcome to the site and I am so sorry your dad has lost his spirit. This disease takes its toll mentally, so be prepared. You might want to talk to his doctor about anti depressents or about hooking him up with a psychologist. As to his eating, it may be cancer related. There are drugs that increase your appetite so ask his doctor about those as well.
Hang in there and let us know how we can help.

SpectatorJAn,
Welcome to the site. If you are throwing up, ask your dr for primperan (hope that is spelled right). It works wonders.About depression, I see a psychologist regularly and would recommend it to everyone. I am lucky in that here in Sweden you get hooked up with a pyscholoist immediately at diagnosis. It has really helped both me and my husband.
Take care and let us know how it goes.

SpectatorWelcome Charley!
Fellow SCer here, though now I live in Sweden and dont get home as much as I would like. This is the place for both support and opinions…and we have alot of both! I always think you should go with your gut. If you want to be more aggressive, then find someone who will be. If you trust your drs, let them take the lead with your imput.
Stable is great, shrinkage is excellent. May it continue.

SpectatorJan,
External drains cause so many of us problems. You might want to talk to your doctor about the smell. Get on those antibiotics before the infection can take hold.If you ever want to really complain about your drain, talk to either me or Kristin. I think we hate them more than anyone else. In my case, I was allergic to the plastic…can I say ouchy and itchy! Kristin is like your case, slow to heal. MAny of have empathy for you right now. Hang in there.
And to your question…some people stay on antibiotics during chemo so I bet you could do the same while the drain heals.

SpectatorBarbara,
You can handle what you can handle and that is YOUR decision to make. Sometimes you need to decide between quality and quantity. You will make the best decision for you.Hugs,

SpectatorPeople have the most wonderful things to say about home hospice. I also think your children will want to spend as much time as possible with you. A 14 year old cant drive so being away would limit her ability to see and spend time with you. That is something so precious and should not be discounted lightly.

SpectatorI would think chemo, but all doctors have different approaches and ideas. They also might use radiation.
Let us know how it goes.
