ModeratorHi Sharon,
Not had a lot of experience personally with drains but I know that others will be along soon to help share their experiences of drains with you. You are right though to keep a very close eye on this and of course to watch for signs of infection etc and should it become necessary a trip to the ER would not be out of order either.
I so hope that things will start to work as they should with the drain ASAP. I have this link as well on drains and hope it is of use to you.
My best wishes to you and your husband,
Gavin

ModeratorHi Christine,
Welcome to the site. Sorry that you had to find us all here and I’m sorry also to hear what you are going through right now but I am very glad that you have joined in with all here as you have so come to the best place for support and help and you will get tons of both from everyone here. I know that we have quite a few members here on the site that are from your area and I know that they will be along soon to share their experiences with you. And of course others will be along as well although it can get a bit quite around here at the weekend and I know as well that some of our members are off to Chicago this weekend for the ASCO Annual meeting for this year.
I saw your post re the U of C on the other thread and hopefully some will be able to give you some pointers about that hospital on that thread. That is great to hear that a resection may be an option for you as treatment as so many people are not able to have that surgery. Also great to hear you say that you are of to MSKCC for a second opinion, excellent. Getting this is a great idea and please let us know how that goes for you.
Please keep coming back here Christine, you are not alone in this now, we are here for you and we so care. If we can help in any way we will and please feel free to ask any questions and we will do what we can to help in answering them. Looking forward to hearing more from you.
My best wishes to you,
Gavin

ModeratorDear Krassi,
I am sorry to hear about your sister and what she is going through and I so wish that we could all help you. When my dad was in hospice care he had the pressure mattress and that helped him with his comfort with the hospital bed. You sisters comfort is of the utmost importance right now and I so hope that her medical team can get to grips with the pain and vomitting that she is experiencing.
My dad had trouble with vomitting for a long time and when he was in hospice he started to get his meds through a syringe driver and that helped a lot. That meant that he could get his meds be by passing having to swallow them and that may help your sister right now.
Please keep coming back Krassi, we are here for you.
My best wishes to you,
Gavin

ModeratorHi Lorraine,
Many thanks for that! Diet chocolates for constipation, sounds so much better than movicol or lactulose or anything like that! No doubt tastes much better too!
Hope that your chemo continues to go well, and that the diet chocs do their new found job also if needed!
My best to you,
Gavin

ModeratorHi Lorraine,
I do agree with what Lee and Lainy have said to you re stents and the things that you need to look out for as possible signs of infection etc. And any of these signs should be looked into as soon as possible if they arise. As a rough guide, plastic stents will last around 3 months or so before clogging can become and issue and metal ones last around a year.
Hope that the Levaquin works well for you and please keep us updated on how things go for you.
My best wishes to you,
Gavin

ModeratorHi Fred,
Found this googling for you, it’s quite lengthy though.

Found this as well from MSKCC – https://www.mskcc.org/cancer-care/integrative-medicine/herbs/squalamine
Hope some of these are useful Fred and very happy to hear you say that your son is doing better and my fingers are crossed for that to continue!
Best wishes,
Gavin
