Kris… wish you the most positive outcome tomorrow with your prodcedure. This cc just likes to keep on poppoing up and aggravating the crap out of us. Keep that smiling face and positive attitude of hope. Your young and full of stamina. Destress ,dont, let that hamper your outcome. I had scan today and review tomorrow to see if the last three months of tarceva how been doing any good. I’m hopeful and staying as relaxed as possible. Stress has such an important role and we can control that with different techniques. Try them all. Peter was a shining example of dealing with stress. Again, my most positive vibes are coming your way!
    Bless You,

Rob Mullen… I agree with Marion and Ron. Evaluate which direction your Dad would like to take. There is no rason why he can’t take a break or reduce dosage like Ron stated. It choice after choice. Gemcitibine on me worked initially then stopped reducing. I’ve tried many other regimens with some temporary stabilization. But during this whole time the little ole microscopic cancer cells were off and hunting for new breeding grounds. Although I entered at hope hospice, I continue to take Tarceva with little to no side effects. I have mets to liver, sternum, ribs, soft tissue adjacent my esohogus and another pressing on the spine, also completely throughout both lungs. I personally feel I still doing well with proper pain management. It is continually said these drugs work differently on everyone and that is true from my own trial and error and comparison with others on the site. Next week I get Scan and see my oncologist. It will be one of those stop everything or if it is helping to slow or stablize carry on taking this tarceva for as long as allowed. Like I said I’m on hospice at home and taking advantage of oxygen therapy with the Tarceva , nothing to loose plenty to gain. Your Dad has 25 years over me. If your Dad has other health problems that comprimise his immune system It’s going to be a tough call. When it mets to the ribs it can be quite painful if not properly managed. Rob, see what Dad would like to do, take a break, cut back ,try something else or say Hey quality of life enough is enough. I’m so sorry your Dad had to be inflicted with this relentless disease, especialy at his age when he should be enjoying his pension years. I wish you the best and I guest I’m a person who believes in hope and last minute reprieves.

Hi Karen, Your absolutely correct. It took 10 days from start to finish before my SSI deposits began. And they will go back retroactive maximum of 12 months from date of application if you had to stop work anytime during that period. However, medicare was still a twenty four month waiting period. I have the 2009 Medicare Book if anyone has a particular question ,I would be more than happy to look it up.

Suzanne.. Glad your SSI went through with out any problems and so quickly. Now is the Insurance part, Medicare. Whole different set of rules unfortunately. I believe it is a 24 month waiting period from time of application/approval of SSI before you recieve Medicare. It will explain it all in the booklet or your can go on line now of the Social security. So if you have Medical Insurance keep hold of it as they don’t go hand to hand time wise. You may already know, but some of us have found out the hard way. It’s not fair to have to wait so long for Medicare. Something that should be addressed with Congress tht’s for sure.
Gog Bless, Jeff P.S. Goggle above in our special little google box about medicare and social security as it has been discussed on this board several times.

    Hello All,

Here is my 2 cents worth as well. Cancer cells occur between 6-10 times in a persons lifetime. When the person’s immune system is strong, the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.
When it comes to chemotherapy and radiation, poisoning of the rapid-growing cancers cells begins. At the same time healthy cells in the bone marrow, gasro-intestinal tract and can cause damge or further damage to the liver, kidneys, lungs, etc. Initial treatment with chemo and radiation will often reduce size of tumor. As I have learned in my case specifically, if I had not taken a few breaks and refused certain treatments I would not be here today. Prolong use just causes a toxic burden on the bodies immune system and I would have ended up dying from some kind of infection or other complications.
In my opinion initial surgery yes. But a doctor cannot tell you your cancer free not even microscopically. It’s up to your immune system to take over from there. Even surgery in my case caused it to spread to another site.
I believe cancer is a disease of the mind ,body, and spirit. You have to be proactive ans positive in spirit. You have to learn to relax and enjoy life. You have to be forgiving and have a loving spirit to reduce that acidic enviornment.
Lastly, you have to eat healthy avoid acidic foods. avoid sugar, red meat, and regular milk. Change your eating habits: raw carrots ,chicken, fish, beans, soy milk, whole grains, eat alkaline based foods.
Finally, Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated enviornment. Deep breathing exercising. Oxygen therapy is another means of to destroy cancer. Now that I’m on hospice at home with an oxygen machince, I will use it to fight my cancer with the above listed things. Suggest others who are on at home hospice utilized the oxygen machine to your benefit. I don’t know if my immune system has be compromised to far and beyond for a come back ,but hope is in the air and I’ll give it a try. Alot of this infor came out way back, supposively from some one at John Hopkins and to the best of my reculection was denied by someone. But somehow it fits my picture of trial and errors of the passed 4 years. If this don’t work, I’ll just get weaker as time goes by, until I need Shower chair. But I will make good use of hospice and all the oxygen therapy I need.
Those of you who have known me from almost the begining of this site, understand this is a slim chance of turning around my immune system, but as I say I’ll give it a whirl and take it to the limit one more time! I’m still driving and going ut to eat, but it was felt I should be on hospice so I agreed. Of course I’m limited where and I often and have to have someone with me just in case. Don’t give up on surgery ,radiation, Cyberknife but also don’t give up on your own God given immune system and try a little faith. Stretch out the treatments and listen to your body and other little whispers. I continue to pray for a cure along with Mary and everyone else. Mary and Tom, I wish you the best on your choice. It’s never easy.
    God Bless You All,
    Jeff G.

Hi Lainey… Sure hope Mr. T gets his bloat and gas straightened out soon. That can be so dog gone uncomfortable. Is Teddy allowed to take Ibprofen? I found after my external radiation some bloating and the oncologist told me to take 800mg every 4-6 hours for the anti inflammatory effects. Actually Hospice has me take for about a week after each fracture. Works good. I still keep taking all my other Waynes World of Drugs though. Will check in Friday and see how all goes. Mr. Support will be right on your tail end.
    Bless ya Both,

Hi All, My research suggest that yes tumors killed with with cyber knife (Necrosis) can at times cause blockage of fluid to drain properly, in turn causing edema. In some cases an additional surgery is needed to remove dead tumor just for this reason. This is an individual situation depending on how large of dead tumor and location is was in. There is alot more information regarding Dead tumors. Use your normal search and put in Necrosis tumor blockage and you should get plenty of information and different things that can be done. Inflammation plays a role in causing edema as well and radiation cuases the inflamation. I was drained three times just from external radiation with a one liter bag each time until the last one was practically nothing.

    Wish you all the best!

Natasha…. I would recommend entering “end of life symptoms” in the goggle custom search at top of this page. I know it has been discussed a few times. Otherwise, the basic answer is only God knows for sure when. There has been individuals who have lived for days and others for months once entering hospice. Each person have different end results depending on their cancer and where it has spread to and what is being affected the most. There really is no time table ,even with some symptoms showing. It is extremely difficult waiting day after day. I recommend love and cherish every moment and keep your mom comfortable and pain free.
