Yes Rick there is a waiting period. My last day of work was Sept 6, and they ruled out that entire month. My first payment was in April. That was for the month of March. Did they rule out getting SSI in the meantime for you? I did not qualify for that, they use household income for those guidelines.

Yes, I am aware of the amount you can earn. However, I am also weary of trying to work in the first year, and triggering a review. There are work at home forums, and many disabled are members, these are the stories I hear of trying to better their situation by working small jobs, and end up loosing their disability over a few hundred per month. There are companies that will take the ticket to work, and try their hardest to get you to work more hours than allowed. Its just a mess to try and deal with.
I want to work, don’t get me wrong, however, my digestive system, does not allow me to be out of the house for more than a few hours at a time. We are working on this, with some enzymes, and progress is being made!
just_jillMemberBetsy,
I had the whipple surgery on Sept 20th of last year. It was not until Feb, that I was well enough to get into the oncology office. They also did not see any benefit in chemo nor radiation, as my margins were all clear and no lympth node involvement.
My blood is checked monthly, and I do have some numbers that are a little high for their liking. I am scheduled for a CT tomorrow, but, will not get results until the second of November.
Insurance companies will say you have to be cancer free for ten years, before they will cover you. Others will say only five years. Its a crap shoot if you ask me.
Let me say, I am very glad to see you here and very glad your tumor was successfully removed! We are few and far between!

I just started getting mine in April of 09 and would love to test the waters. Being home 24/7, mostly, is just not all its cracked up to be.
just_jillMemberThe normal comfort food will help. Chicken n noodles, potato soup, oatmeal, oh, and cottage cheese.
I am happy to report , since going on Pancreatic Enzymes, and figuring out the correct dosage of them, I can actually go out in public. Laughing out loud!
August 19, 2009 at 11:16 am in reply to: Taking a poll to see if anything is similar with our cc patients…… #30729just_jillMemberI had never been sick, and was not on any medications.
just_jillMemberShowing concern, being there to run to the store, fixing something like a shake out of that darn ensure, adding fresh fruit or really anything that will get her to eat or drink. These things help more than words. Having said that, you need to know, this is what helped me recover from my successful whipple operation.
My margins were also clear, and no lymph node involvement, tumor completely removed. NO chemo was done. They told me that in my case, doing chemo to prevent the cancer from coming back, was not proven to help anything. I did not press them on this as I was not anxious to have that poison in my veins for no reason.
just_jillMemberLast Wednesday, my best friend, lost her battle with Lung Cancer, and today, My wonderful Auntie Etnah, lost her battle. I am just so sad…..
just_jillMemberI never got to go and spend time with my Aunt. They traveled to Chicago, to Cancer Treatment Center of America. There they found yet another tumor on her spine, and they spent two weeks there, getting radiation, 10 treatments, plus they did attempt another type of chemo. Her body had such a bad reaction to this chemo, they were unable to give more than the one. They arrived home June 6, and last night, June 14, Etnah started having seizures, and was rushed to hospital, where she is drifting in and out. As of that time, she had also been transfused 5 pints of blood.
I only pray that her passing is peaceful and without pain. Take her suffering away!
As much as my need is to jump in the car and as quickly as possible get to her bedside, her children and grandchildren, as well as Uncle Gary, do not need me falling apart on their hands either. They have so much of their own grief to deal with. Does anyone understand this?
just_jillMemberJust to update here, We received our overpayment refund from the PET Scan company in the Mail on Saturday. Finally!
just_jillMemberHey Jim, Was thinking about you today! Hope your doing well and on the way home to your own bed soon!
just_jillMemberHi Jim,
I wish you the best of luck, and throwing in some prayers to boot! Certainly hope they get it all and its contained. If you have a laptop, take it with you! All the hospitals I was in had wireless connection and it sure helped to pass the time!

just_jillMemberJim,
Awesome news on the ERCP.
I wish that I had found this forum previous to my whipple surgery.
We were told nothing of what to expect after surgery, and as each thing come up, the Dr. would then say, yeah, that is normal after such a procedure! I wanted to smack him. He could have told me beforehand what to expect, and how long to to expect it. Dummy me , was so overwhelmed , I failed to ask about anything!!You are going into this Knowing what can happen, as they say prepare for the worst, expect the best! I would not wish this on anyone and as I said, will be sending good thoughts and prayers your way!
Oh, and the surgeon, wanted me to rush into chemo, before I was recovered from the surgery. However, when I did get in to see an Oncologist, he did not think chemo would was needed.
I have had two clean scans since Feb. and pray they stay clean!
Jill
just_jillMemberHey Jim,
I would also like to welcome you.
Have you had an ERCP, yet? This is where they stick a camera down your throat, into your tummy and look around. Was very helpful in locating exactly where the tumor is and mine, actually showed there was no vessel involvement, thus having a successful Whipple Surgery on Sept 22.Be prepared for extreme weight loss and nausea. My nausea was very very bad until about Thanksgiving. At that time it turns into extreme bloating, gas and loose stools, which continue to be my issues to date.
Stock up on chicken noodle soup. It was the only thing I could keep down.
What happens is, after this surgery, when you eat your stomach is supposed to empty in a certain period of time, however, after the re plumbing, things just don’t quite work, so, for me, food comes back up. Try to keep yourself hydrated, but, do not drink carbonated drinks. The recovery time for this is longer than anything you can think of. Hopefully, you have short and long term disability , if not, you may want to go online and get signed up for social security disability, as, even after approval, there is a five month wait period.
I hope this does not overwhelm you, and if you have questions, please just ask. Hugs, Good thoughts and of course prayers are being sent your way.
