Welcome to our little group! As everyone else has said, you are at the right place for support and answers! I am so happy you got a good (in relative terms) diagnosis, tho! Resection or transplant are the only known cures, so you are one of the lucky ones!
Yes, it’s a hard disease to have. But many of us have beaten it, or are living with it. With more and more hope monthly!
Turn “scared” into determination! It’s what most of us try to do. Scared? Of course we are. But most of us are determined, and that beats scared every day of the week.
Good luck on the 8th! It’s my brothers birthday, so it has to be a good day!kris00jSpectatorJudy, sorry Ron is having such issues.
The surgery was pretty big when I had it done, but I had gallbladder out and lymph nodes, too. The treatment is easy… Empty out the pump and refill… It takes 5-10 min. If he gets Gemzar in addition, that will be the longest part. The steroids cause sleep and weight issues, but that’s minor compared to other effects.
I hope he gets the surgery, it is successful, and he can have lots of FUDR treatments, as I believe it kicks tumor butt!
Please keep us informed. You may want to start a new thread in the General Discussion area.kris00jSpectatorMerry Christmas! Thank God for technology, huh? Almost as good as being there, but without the nasty germs.
You have a great attitude. And, yes, reactions come in all forms, from really wanting to help to lip service, to running as quickly as they can!! lol
I got a lot of (head tilt)… I’m sorry. But you don’t LOOK sick! The head tilt is the worst!
I still, after almost 3 years, haven’t figured out WHEN to disclose… I’m single and attempt to “date” so it’s hard. I don’t want to waste someone’s time, but I don’t want to disclose to a stranger who isn’t going to be part of my life…..
Don’t take these reactions personally. And tell your wife to try not to, also. It’s their loss, and their shortcomings. It hurts, yes. But better to find out now than when you might need these people.
Have a great holiday despite the “crud” and my prayers are similar: that we get a cure, or at least a possible cure, in 2014!!!kris00jSpectatorHugh! What wonderful news just in time for the holidays!
kris00jSpectatorSo happy to hear this!! Yay for 28!!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
kris00jSpectatorAnd have a great time in Italy!
kris00jSpectatorHi, I can’t remember if you work? If not, I will come up Fri. if that works for you. Then you have Sat. to relax and pack. Of course, that all depends on the weather!
kris00jSpectatorRegina, sorry I can’t help with the health questions. I never had low blood counts for very long, and never had a transfusion.
I would still like to see the tree when I get back up north. I get in dec. 29 and have onc visit on 31. So the 2nd through the 5th is good for me. I don’t know if anyone else wants to go.
Have a great holiday and we can have some tea to ring in the new year!! lolkris00jSpectatorHi, Patti,
Love your positive attitude! Enjoy your holidays and lets all kick some cc butt next year!!
Love the encouragement from Dr. Shelby!kris00jSpectatorMerry Christmas and happy new year to you, too. Tom is a trooper. I wonder if he’s getting steroids? That would account for the hunger and sleep issues. It might also contribute to the trembling. Ask his onc and maybe he can have it lowered if so.
kris00jSpectatorSuzy, you might have lost your hair with oxy also. I was told to be prepared. I’m sorry things didn’t work but hopeful Dr. Javle has another suggestion.
Depression is normal. Vent away to us: we understand. And please try to celebrate the holidays! Being with family is a great cure!kris00jSpectatorWow! Like I say, rare reactions! What do you expect? I have a rare cancer. Always made my medical team laugh. Normal? No way!
Ok, joking aside, I’m sorry he had such a bad reaction, but glad things got under control. I can’t believe he is doing gem/Ox without a port! One strong set of veins.
Hopefully pushing the Ox slower will work. And you get a break for Christmas so celebrate life and all it’s wonders!
And best wishes for nothing to see on 1-31!!December 20, 2013 at 7:29 pm in reply to: Newly diagnosed with bile duct cancer – some input will be useful #77985kris00jSpectatorMy schedule was different. I was on Gem/Ox and it was every other Monday. The FUDR thru the pump was administered 1st Monday, replaced the next chemo day with saline, then readministered the next chemo day, etc. it was a two week cycle the whole time. 1 on, 1 off.
kris00jSpectatorCaroline,
I wish I could help you, but none of my oncs has ever discussed my cea with me. I know the ca19-9 is used to possibly tell us what is happening, but it is not a certainty.
I hope someone who knows more can get back to you soon.kris00jSpectatorPorter, it’s been my experience that scan results are often confusing. But, either way, it say shrinkage to me! And that’s great! And, yes, you want to attack with chemo, but these drugs also attack good cells, so just be patient and let yourself heal between treatments. And Lainy is right in saying chemo continues to work between treatments. Call your onc for clarification on the readings, and PLEASE allow yourself to let go of some of the worry while you are on your trip.
And happy birthday to your son!! -
