Dear Mary Anne,
I have been keeping up with you and Joe and praying for both of you. My husband, Tommy was diagnosed 13 months ago. The beginning of his journey was very tough. His bilirubin got up to 20. After several plastic stents, a metal stent, and two percutaneous bags, he started chemo and did really well for a long time. Unfortunately, Tommy is starting to fail again. His bilirubin is going up again. The cancer has spread to several areas in his lungs. THis is such a difficult journey for everyone involved. I will keep you and Joe in our prayers. God bless you both.Laura West
Richmond, VirginialaurahwSpectatorDear Jeff,
Thank you for the inspirational poem. You seem like such a strong and special person. I will keep you in my prayers.
LauralaurahwSpectatorHi all,
My husband, Tommy West, is home and recovering from surgery. I am happy to answer any questions concerning Dr. Canady to anyone out there. Dr. Canady is A VERY CARING SURGEON. Tommy’s cancer is more widespread than we thought, so Dr. Canady was not able to remove the cancer in Tommy’s liver this time. Tommy has changed his chemo drugs to gemzar and tarceva. He is still recovering from the surgery and is on IV antibiotics for a blood infection. We are going to do whatever we have to do to fight this awful cancer.
Keeping the faith,

Tommy and I met with Dr. Jerome Canady. Surgery is scheduled for November 13th. Tommy will have half of his liver resected, part of his esophagus resected, his stomach, and part of his pancreas resected.. We are feeling very grateful that God led us to Dr. Canady. He is an amazing person and doctor. I have been praying for a miracle… I think we found it.
I will stay in touch.

Check this website out. There is a doctor who is performing surgeries on CC patients. His name is Dr. Jerome Canaday.Let me know if you want more information. My husband, Tommy, has been talking with this doctor. We are sending all of Tommy’s scans and reports to him to see if surgery is an option. Tommy has two separate cancers: esophageal and bile duct.
Keep the faith.
Laura WestlaurahwSpectatorDear Jeff,
I have a question about your statement that there is low grade and high grade CC. I have never heard that. How do they determine if you have low or high grade?Laura
laurahwSpectatorDear Jeff,
Were you diagnosed with intrahepatic CC? I didn’t think anyone with intrahepatic CC lived more than three years. That is very encouraging news. My husband has intrahepatic and a separate esophageal cancer that has spread to his liver. They think the esophageal may be gone at this point. He has had 10 rounds of chemo. He will have his second scan in August.
Always looking for new answers…
LauralaurahwSpectatorDear Peter,
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions concerning my husband, Tommy. We are thinking of going to MD Anderson after his second CT scan in August. We are always searching for more information. Tommy is a very unusual diagnosis… CC and a separate esophageal cancer with meds to liver.
Thank you for any additional info. you may have. We’ll keep the faith!
LauralaurahwSpectatorDear Marions,
Thank you for taking the time to email me back. I am always searching for more information for my husband, Tommy. He was diagnosed with CC on January 24, 2007. They also found a separate cancer in his esophagus that has spread to his liver. It is all so unusual. We are still looking for more answers and information. Thanks again!
LauralaurahwSpectatorWhat are the favorable results? Did he give a length of time that the chemo usually works??
