Dear Kris,
Now my turn to help you! I am a medical provider also. IT IS YOUR RIGHT1 You sometimes have to be a little ascertive as Jeff said, to get things done. And he is right! What would that person do if the shoe was turned. Let your Doctor know that you would greatly appreciate recieving the results of your tests in a timely fashion, and would gladly sign any release of information paper work so that you can obtain a copy of your report. I am not sure about Sweden, but in US, scans are read immediately.
Hope this is helpful,
LanalselbySpectatorThank you Kris,
I really needed to hear that! My family is worried because Dr. Canady called me 2 times. They are wondering if he is a good Dr. I am impressed by the fact that he literally, with the help of God, saved Cindy Russels life. He was also mentored by Dr. Starzl, the WORLDS first liver transplant doctor. Of course I will ask him plenty of questions when we have our first appt. Hopefully sometime this week!
Wish us luck!
Thank you again,
LanalselbySpectatorI have to let eveyone know that my some of my family members are very scared to see Dr. Canady. They are worried that this may be too good to be true. My dad and I are so excited, hopeful, and have a very strong faith that we feel very good about taking this next step. The only thing I fear is if my father has a complication and dies on the table…, that my family will blame me for the rest of my life. I have to say, though, that my dad is in quite a bit of pain, losing wt, vomiting intermittently, and knows he will die very soon anyway.
Thoughts and prayers welcome!
LanalselbySpectatorKris,
Thank you so very much. A friend of mine was trying to locate this service on the web but was unable to do so! Her Grandmother was able to use a flight to travel for her colon cancer!
Thank you so very much!
LanalselbySpectatorTo all of you that have e-mailed me back, thank you!
I am very excited to tell you that Dr. Canady has reviewed my father’s case. He says that he will be able to do surgical resection. Hopefully we will fly to Pittsburgh this week!! He will first do an embolization on vessels that feed the cancerous part of the tumor. He will then bring us back in about 1 month for resection. I am so excited, scared, a little reserved…and hopeful! I will keep all of you posted. Pray for us!
With prayers back at you,
LanalselbySpectatorNEIL,
I FORGOT TO ASK. HOW IS CINDY FEELING NOW? IS HER STRENGTH GOOD? EATING WELL? ETC.
THANKS,
LANANovember 2, 2007 at 3:01 pm in reply to: Can someone help me understand something please? SURGICAL OPTIONS? #16878lselbySpectatorDEAR LAURA,
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THE INFO/STORY ON DR. CANADY. I AM HOPEFUL HE CAN HELP MY FATHER. I SENT ALL MY FATHER’S INFO, AND HE WILL CALL LATER TODAY TO LET ME KNOW IF HE WILL BE ABLE TO DO SURGERY. IF YOU WOULDN’T HAVE POSTED THAT INFO, I WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN ABOUT HIM.
THANK YOU AGAIN!
LANAlselbySpectatorDEAR NEIL AND CINDY,
I AM SO VERY HAPPY FOR YOU. I READ YOUR STORY AND CALLED DR CANADY YESTERDAY. HE WILL BE GIVING ME A CALL TODAY TO SEE IF HE CAN SAVE MY FATHER’S LIFE. MY FATHER’S TUMOR IS 14CM X 12CM. INVOLVES PORTAL VEIN AND HEPATIC ARTERY. I COULD HARDLY SLEEP LAST NOC, BECAUSE, BY THE GRACE OF GOD, AND THROUGH CINDY’S REMARKABLE STORY, I AM HOPEFUL THAT DR CANADY CAN HELP MY FATHER AS WELL.
THANK YOU FOR ALL THE PRAYER AND SUPPORT, AND MY PRAYER AND SUPPORT GOES OUT TO ALL OF YOU!
LANA SELBYlselbySpectatorDear JeffG,
Thank you so very much. My dad has decided. I feel it was by the grace of God and this web site that we came across Dr. Canady. I will be sending him my dad’s info via discs from Mayo tomorrow to review his case. Please pray for us as I have an overwhelming feeling of hope. Dad is in great spirits and seems as though he wants to fight this disease again.
Thank you for your loving support,
LanalselbySpectatorThank you both JeffG and Maryanne,
You are my inspiration. Jeff- can I ask your advice on an issue we are struggling with? My father went through 3 rounds of chemoembolization. They used adriamycin and mitomycin???? not sure exactly if spelling is correct, however, when we read about others who received embolization, it seems as though nobody received the same cocktail as my father. My brother would like to get a second opinion from a Dr Geschwinn that helped Colleen’s husband. When I called I found out that each facility is different in the chemo they use for this procedure. I would like to take dad to either MD Anderson or Sloan for second opinion, as I feel this would be a better approach, and he seems to be getting more ill. My brother and I seem to be at odds on what route to take next. He is losing more weight, vomiting, and having more abd pain. Then I read about Dr. Canady doing surgery on a young female that had bile duct cancer with 75% of her liver involved. I am quite curious as to why others haven’t sought this Dr out? I left my father’s home in ND yesterday in tears as I am so confused, worried, unsure of what direction to turn, and want to do the right thing. I thank you so very much for your prayers, because I know, without the help of God in this difficult disease, I am not sure where our family would be. Dad’s neighbor’s pastor said a prayer to the congregation re: my father, and he prayed that God would lead dad to a Dr. that could get rid of this tumor. I am wondering if this is a sign that I should be looking towards Dr. Canady.
I hope I am not sounding crazy,
Thank you again for you loving support, and for being such a great inspiration to all of us!
LanalselbySpectatorDear Coleen,
I feel your pain!!!! It is very difficult for me to to try and understand the research as #1- I believe that being the intrahepatic cc is even more rare than the extrahepatic…difficult to know what is effective or not due to the control group. When doing research one has to look at the number of people being studied as well as the variable factors that may/may not be involved. Due to the limited research and few number of people being studied, I feel that a lot of times the 2 groups are clumped together. #2 I wonder if there are people that are misdiagnosed and diagnosed with primary hepatocellular carcinoma…or liver cancer.
Food for thought!
LanalselbySpectatorThanks again Joyce,
Dad had to have stents- apparently it blocked off his bile duct, was in both portal veins and hepatic artery, thus the doctor saying it couldn’t have been in a worse place. I am frustrated by the lack of research regarding cc- I feel that there is not a lot of monies or emphasis due to liver involvement. When we hear liver cancer, some may think of people that are self destructive…alcohol, drugs. I know this as I work with these people daily in ER. I am currently doing some research re; natural therapies, would like dad to try wheat grass juice. Reading a lot about the ph of body, keeping it more alkaline, etc.
Thanks,
LanalselbySpectatorThank you Joyce,
I have tears welling up in my eyes, as I need to vent. I feel an extreme amount of pressure do to my medical knowledge. This web site has been the most incredible resource for my family.
Thank you again, and will keep you posted!
