    April,
I am sorry you and your mum are going through this very hard time. The ascites is not good and does sometimes indicate a worsening of the disease overall.A different stage in fact. You are being a wonderful support for your mother, try to look after yourself too. Janet

Hi,I think if you have a wonderful doctor you should stick with him.I also think you should accept that your sister has advanced cancer and may not have long to live. This doesnt mean you cant hope for a miracle but you need to have a realistic outlook. The treatment she has had sounds right to me,and I am hoping she is ok painwise ,particularly with that tumour in the leg which sounds terrible for her.
She needs some quality time with family and particularly her kids and you need to talk and say all the important things.Does she have a partner? There is a lot of community support available so make sure you access it,it might help to talk to a counsellor/psychologist too.We all need all the help available!

Pauline,it would be so lovely to join up with you there.Easier to think of than do in my case(but thinking on it!)
I have found time to have gone by so oddly that I feel I am in a parallell universe.Sometimes quick, sometimes slow and I have no idea what I was doing this time last year. Its hard for me because we are so much a family unit still, affected by what is happening to all that I find it so exhausting.
But,enjoy your break,Pauline and we will join you eventually Janet x

How overwhelming for you.Even if you think deep down you will probably go for it all the variables must be chasing around in your head.Well good luck from me and at least you have the good luck wishes from all around the world to create a greater impact Janet x

Jennifer, what a lot you have to deal with.It is so hard you must be reeling with it all.Kids complicate everything for us as we are always as mums putting their needs first, thats how it is.I am on the other side of the world so do not know about hospitals etc where you are but I am a nurse and mother so know about general sorts of things. B careful with the travel.Make sure your mum really is ok to travel because it is stressful to be sick in another country.I have seen it happen in my own work in hospitals. It can be a really hard decision when you have already booked but you need to get it right.Good luck Janet

I am very sorry to hear about Brian.I went through the same experience in almost the exact same timeframe with my husband,Joel last year.He was older in his 50s but still way too young to leave us.
I think take comfort from family and friends and be very patient with yourself.A little bit of exercise does help, whatever you can manage to do.
    My best to you Janet

Rick,I think its the gemcitabine that is the main player with the chemo, they add a platinum to enhance the effect so the overall outcome will probably not vary greatly
