Susie, they are going with twice a day radiation to be in compliance with the requirements for liver transplantation. Per the rad. Oncologist he didn’t think there’s anything unique about twice daily radiation – it just happens that this was how the original Mayo Clinic study was performed and they need to faithfully reproduce what was done at Mayo to achieve identical results.
Marion, she’ll be getting intensity modulated radiation (IMRT) – Per the dr. he tried to get a simpler?? (3D conformal) plan yesterday but was not happy with the amount of scatter radiation to the uninvolved (healthy) liver with IMRT but he’s not done with the final plan yet. will keep updated.
Thanks
mymommylifeSpectatorDiarrhea, Hand-and-foot syndrome, sores in the mouth, fatigue, rash on arms and legs. I fly back home Friday night and she starts radiation next week so I know I’ll be on pins and needles. My 8 year old son on the other hand is ecstatic to see his mama. I plan on being back in about a month once his school ends.
mymommylifeSpectatorSusie, hang in there and keep us updated.
Hugs!!
mymommylifeSpectatorKeep fighting and staying positive!

mymommylifeSpectatorHi Les,
Praying for you and Sarah.
mymommylifeSpectatorronidinkes, thanks for the info. I’ve moved back to Houston since Jan and go back and forth. 90% of my time is spent taking care of my mom and keeping her spirits up with my crazy sense of humor. My brother and sister live in town as well but I rather take care of her myself since she’s more comfortable with me. I just can’t bear leaving her, she’s my best friend and my first love. My Hubby is a gem, very considerate and is helping out with our 8 year old son back home.
Tiff1496 how has you experience been with Dr. Javle? My mom is to go every two weeks for chemo, we find more out next week after she has an endoscopic u/s. If you can please let me know what to expect in terms of chemo that would be great!! Thanks again everyone.
mymommylifeSpectatorBella769,
So sorry your father passed on. Losing a parent is hard, and I’m sure your dad was a good man. You’ll be in my thoughts.
mymommylifeSpectatorThanks Lainy for your kind words, and PCL1029 I took your advice and got my mom into MD Anderson last week, we finally saw a surgeon named Dr. Curley today who has advised us against surgery. We also saw an Oncologist named Dr. Javle who thinks chemo is the best route right now.
She is stable, I capped her biliary catheter over the weekend; they were changed last week since one was blocked (no more bags to carry around) and her pain is manageable. She has an endoscopic u/s scheduled for next week and a f/u with Dr. Javle on Thursday. I’m staying positive and praying for her. She has a strong faith and positive outlook and that will definitely help her during this tough time.
mymommylifeSpectatorHi Lisa,
Just saw your post right now, I feel like you are sharing my story. I will be praying for your mom. I’m pretty new to this so I can’t help you here much but I’ve been reading a lot of posts and people seem to be very caring and informed.
Wishing you and your mom the very best.
