Thank you all for your very kind words. I love you all so much!! I am having a fun few days at my Mom and Dad’s house near Lake Erie. My sister and my nephew are also here. We have been swimming in their lake on their property and tonight Kristen and Bruce came over from Michigan and we all went out to eat for my Mom’s 78th birthday. We had fun and I’m sure Lauren was there with us. I am trying to be happy.

    Hi Denise,

I would like to welcome you to this site. Good luck with your needle biopsy. Make sure they numb it up well. My daughter had two of them. The first time really hurt so she made sure the second time that they really numbed her well and she didn’t feel a thing. Bless you and wishing you all the best.

    Hi Rebecca,

Welcome to this site, but sorry to hear about your father-in-law. I can’t answer either of your questions, but many others live in the NY/NJ area and will be able to help you out. Since you are not happy with the oncologist, I think you are definitely doing the right thing. There are many excellent doctors that really care about their patients and I hope you find one!! Wishing for all the best for you and your father-in-law.

    Hi Josh Lee,

I would like to welcome you to this site, but I am really sorry to hear about your Mom. It sounds as though your Mom is doing well with the Gem/Cis. That is great!! The main thing is that you you have hope. That is one thing that can never be taken away from you or your Mom. I wish your Mom all the best in her fight against this disease. Bless you both.

    Hugs,
    -Pam

    Dear Shelley,

I am very sorry for you and your dear husband. It must be such a difficult time for both of you right now. My Lauren passed away June 9th, but was not awake for three weeks before. I miss her more each day and I am sorry you must go through this. Just know that I care and will be praying for both of you.

    Love,
    -Pam

    Hi Clare,

My husband and I go to the cemetery every day. I usually meet him there after he gets off work. I have a folding rocking chair and I just sit next to Lauren’s grave and rock. It is very quiet and peaceful there with lots of big trees and rolling hills. Some days I sit there quietly and other days I cry like crazy. But, it makes me feel better to be there. I can’t wait until we get Lauren’s head stone. We ordered it yesterday. It doesn’t matter how composed you are while visiting your sister. I’m sure you will feel close to her. I love your flower idea and I’m sure she sees it. Much love to you, Clare and have a nice visit.

    Love,

    Dear Suz,

Iam so sorry to hear about your sister’s difficulty with getting chemo. You are doing everything you can for her just by being there for her and showing her you love her. I think you need to have a discussion with her doctor and weigh the pros and cons of chemo. Comfort is the most important thing for your sister at this time. I will keep you both in my prayers.

    Love,

in reply to: CA 19-9 ….what does this number REALLY mean? #73184

    Hi Dorien,

I think the CA19-9 is just one tool doctors use. Lauren’s doctor never seemed to be alarmed or happy when hers went up or down. He looked at the whole picture with all of her blood work. He seemed to be way more concerned with how her scans looked. I would much rather have shrinking or disappearing tumors rather than put so much stock into one test. Lauren’s CA19-9 was always in the 200’s and then went way down. She actually seemed more healthy when it was higher, so I am one that does not think it is as important, at least in Lauren’s case, as other people think it is. Just my opinion and I am sure others will disagree. Bless you and your dear husband.

    Hi Nancy,

I would like to welcome you to this site, but I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. Being scared and sad is very normal after being given such hard news to comprehend. Once an action plan is in effect, you will feel better. Take things as they come and try to remain hopeful. Cherish the wonderful times you spend together. Your dear Dad is lucky to have such a caring daughter. I am wishing you and your Dad all the best.

    Love,
    -Pam
