    Hi, everyone,

I did response to the email she had sent to me with the above link included.

All the adverse drugs reactions that Avelox has had been reported to the FDA and appeared in both Levaquin and Cipro professional package inserts.

the most important adverse drug reaction with the black box warning for most the fluroquinolones is tendinitis (swelling of the tendon) and tendon rupture.
STS and TEN ,anemia , jaundice and increase liver enzymes , hepatic failures including death had been reported but rarely.
BTW thanks Liliana to increase our awareness of the side effects of the medications we took.

    God bless.

    Hi, Kris,

I think we should aim higher, and I know you and Lainy and Marion and others will agree to.
Let’s have a cruise ship sails around the world or at least stops at a few ports of calls ,pick up everyone, caregivers and patients, and have a crazy and wonderful time for a week or two, and may be having some discussion contests on board of the ship like ” How I survive thru this ugly cancer ” and once and for all eliminate the word ” cholangiocarcinoma” from our memory . I really looking forward to that possibility. Won’ you agree?
    God bless.

    Hi, Gavin,
For severe cough, try to see whether Benzonatate is ok with your mum’GP .
USUALLY IS 200 mg three times daily as needed. It is the medication I will use if the mucolytics or expectorants like Robitussin DM don’t work and before trying to use narcotic to control the cough.
Say hi to your mum for me and go BEARS.
    God bless.

    Hi,
Lainy, 3-5 years is the time frame we should know by then whether all those talks about personalized genomics research on all types of cancer will turn out as they hope to be.

As Ed Kennedy said” the hope is here and the dream will never die.”
    God bless.

    Hi, Gavin,
Can your mum use this to thin out the mucus? ask the doctor.

    “Expectorants
    Definition
Expectorants are drugs that loosen and clear mucus and phlegm from the respiratory tract.
    Purpose
The drug described here, guaifenesin, is a common ingredient in cough medicines. It is classified as an expectorant, a medicine that helps clear mucus and other secretions from the respiratory tract. However, some debate exists about how effectively guaifenesin does this. In addition, some cough medicines contain other ingredients that may cancel out guaifenesin’s effects. Cough suppressants such as codeine, for example, work against guaifenesin because they discourage coughing up the secretions that the expectorant loosens.
There are other ways to loosen and clear the respiratory secretions associated with colds. These include using a humidifier and drinking six to eight glasses of water a day.”

Say hi to your mum and hope she will be better soon.
BTW, the BEARS are 10 points favorite over the Colts this Sunday.
    God bless.

    Hi,

One thing for sure, Maria, you are much tougher than me both mentally and physically.
the only thing I can say to you is that hopefully the cure can be here soon enough for all the patients on this board which including you and me; to relieve our suffering both mentally and physically and start a new life and put this cancer to rest.
    God bless.

    Hi, everyone,

Avelox is in the same class of antibiotics known as fluoroquinolones–such as Cipro and Levaquin here in the States for treatment of pneumonia, and pancreatitis among other illness. It is a board spectrum antibiotics worth to be mentioned.
As always, most if not all , there are always side effects come with the medications and individual reaction to drugs can be different .
    God bless.

    Hi,
Clexane is the same as Lovenox(enoxaparin) here in the States; short term use in DVT and PE; long term use for PVT and other heart diseases more than 6month can be quite expensive here in the States; life time use of Coumadin in recurrent DVT or PE patients and heart disease patient is not uncommon especially if you are a cancer patient like me.
fondaparin(Arixtra) and dalteparin(Fragmin) are other choices like Lovenox for all of them belong to the group called low-molecular weight heparins.
    God bless.

    Hi,
Using Coumadin for 4 months for PVT logically will decrease the backup pressure caused by blood clot .
Dose your mom’s Coumadin level (INR) being monitored regularly by the COUMADIN clinic in the hospital or in doctor’s office every 2-3weeks or monthly?
The INR should be in the range of 2-3 .
If the INR>3 , that means your mom has too much Coumadin in her and will increase the chance of bleeding such as rectal bleeding .
If the INR is<2, that means she needs to increase the dose of Coumadin so to prevent the blood clot to be formed and therefore increase the backup pressure by the portal vein.
I hope the above info. may help.
    God bless.

    Hi,
I had chemoembo and had no side effects what so ever such as nausea or pain.
I only needed to stay over night.
However, depend on what chemo agents they used, the responses may be different. Most of the chemoembo use mitomycin, cisplatin and adriamycin together, but some just use mitomycin and adriamycin . If the sizes of the tumors are small( ie: < 3 cm each and less than 3 or 4 tumors and the location of the tumors allow RFA( ablation) to perform, then they will do RFA and chemoembo together to get the maximum benefits out of the combination.
Chemoembo is also indicated for larger tumor in the liver but not tumors in the common or distal bile ducts.
    God bless.

    Hi, Gavin,
Be sure to say hi to your mum for me.
I think ,without change, USA Medicare ( health insurance provided by the government for people over 65)will be bankrupted in 2024, if I understand it correctly. The medical care for age below 65 may cost the same in the future but the limitation such as choosing your own doctors and hospitals as well as new drugs may be increased. Who knows which systems is better.
But for this disease, the answer lies on how you look at this disease and how you really want to be treated— since there is no cure at this point for it.
    God bless.

    Hi,
Mayo clinic in Minnesota is a very good choice.
    John Hopkins too.
But I do not see any benefit in doing so at this stage of the game just for pathology confirmation of the diagnosis.
However 2nd opinion on GI specialist consult like Dr. Gores at Mayo or the equivalent at John Hopkins may worth the trip.
And if you decide to do so, 2nd opinion on medical oncology together at the same time may give you a more complete picture about the future of the treatment plans for your husband.
    God bless.
