Hi Jules-holding you and your Dad in my heart today. There is a nutritional supplement called “Prosure” sort of like ensure only really high in omega 3’s and calories. Maybe if he could sip it throughout the day it might help. When my Dave had cahchexia it helped him. Wishing you both strength and a turn-around. Patrice
pderatMemberDear Macks- I cry reading your message but am hear to tell you first hand that although the memories and the love will always be there in your heart you will get through this for all the others in your life who need you to be there and holding there hands when needed. I lost my first husband and best friend when I was only 34. He died of lung cancer after a corageous battle of a horrible chem combination that was experimental. He did survive 7 years after diagnosis and we had a wonderful life together. So here I am again with my now best friend fighting this horrible disease. I only hope that my Dave will survive 7 years too. We have known each other for 30 years but have only been married for 2.5 yrs. Hang on to the love in your heart for support and know that you and your husband were blessed with the time and life you had. Hoping for peace to come to you. Patrice

He is trying alternative stuff now and is feeling well. Hope to still read your posts in another 4 years. Thanks for this encouraging news. Patrice
August 29, 2007 at 3:48 pm in reply to: Pain in the right side by the lower shoulder blade? Is this related? #16526pderatMemberHi Father’s Daughter-wish I knew your name…..anyway, diseases of the gall bladder with any inflammation have symptons of shoulder blade pain…it is referred pain, so he may have growth of his tumors that is causeing the pain and radiation may help to shink the tumors a little and decrease the pain. But, having said that, he has to be willing to go to a doctor to get some help. He can go to the hospital by ambulance if he doesn’t feel well enough to ride in the car. Hope this helps some. I am sorry for all your troubles and hope your Dad can get some relief soon. Patrice
pderatMembertwice a week. They start you out on a low dose and build up to the max when it really starts working…..we hope. thanks for the good wishes. Patrice
pderatMemberDave started Vitamin C therapy last week. He is on a break from Chemo and will have another CT scan before starting back on chemo in 5 weeks. We are hoping to see more shrinkage of his tumors and will let you all know of our Vitamin C experience. Wishing you all good days. Patrice
pderatMemberHi Charlene-my husband Dave was told his CC was inoperable from the beginning (March 07) because he had liver mets with many tumors large and small. We went to Mayo clinic for a second opinion….same thing. He started chemo in May….Gemzar and ociliplatin. He was given a month break in July and his follow up CT scan showed no change….no progression….no spread. So his break is continuing for 6 more weeks then another CT scan. Last week he started on alternative treatment of IV vitamin C. Like others who have answered you, I support Dave in whatever mood he is in. He does not talk of dying and makes plans for the future and frequently reminds me he will love me “forever”. I take the cue from him that he wants to stay in his optomistic mind and as he says….”live with cancer”. Our love grows deeper every day and we enjoy every moment together with no regrets. Hoping for the best for you and your husband. Love heals the mind and spirit and we hope the body. Patrice

It is so kind of you to continue sharing with this group and I hope you are you and your family are continuing to be held up by the loving memories of your husband. Patrice
August 7, 2007 at 1:10 pm in reply to: Partial Interview with Oncologist at a major Cancer Center #16298pderatMemberMarions- Thank you for sharing this interview with us. Kind of disheartening but a viewpoint that gives cause for thinking through ones decisions carefully. Dave is not one to jump at new ideas whereas I am more desperate to find hope and an answer. I have to look into your past posts to see where you are now in your treatment plan. Wishing you the best.
PatricepderatMemberHi Jeff-I have been waiting for your post. Sorry to hear this is stressing your strength and to hear that the treatment is causing you pain. Hope things improve soon and that your markers will improve. We are all rooting for you. Patrice
(I e-mailed you last week, but if you wrote back my spam-blocker must have kicked you out because I don’t have you in my address book. I get so much span that I have it set up to only accept known addresses. I do have a filter on subject “Dave” so that everything with Dave in the subject line goes to a special in- box. )pderatMemberTo the Mack Family- it is so heart wrenching to hear another member has lost the battle and so sorry to hear your experience with the medical community was so horrible. My heart goes out to you and I want to thank you for being part of the CC site and sharing your story. Hold on to your memories and know how important your support was to your loved one.
PatricepderatMemberHi Carol-we have been going through this same experience since Feb. when my husband Dave (64) who had never been sick a day in his life, started feeling tired all the time and losing weight. Doctor thought he was just out of shape and that he needed more exercise……CC diagnosed 3/31. He has had 5 doses of Gemzar and Oxiliplatin, but now he is having a month off because he almost died July 3rd with a cardiac problem. Anyway, we went to Mayo Clinic in May but he was not a transplant candidate either because of the many liver tumors he has.
I read every post on this site hoping for some other alternatives, but for right now he is feeling well and we are living each day to its’ fullest. I work full time, but am taking this week off while he is feeling so good off chemo.
It seems some folks on this site have had surgery, some radiation, and most some sort of chemo, with various results.
I can’t really give any advice but share in your search for more answers. Wishing you both answers and success in beating this nightmare of a disease. We’re all in this together.
PatricepderatMemberThat is great Amy! Lots of folks seem to be on Gemzar including my husband Dave. Best to you and your Mom and we will keep hoping for some good news too.
PatricepderatMemberHi Jeff- You’ve been on my mind all day. Hope the side effects are too bad. Hugs to you. Patrice
pderatMemberThanks to all for your posts. Kris, that was so kind of you to look that up for me. I am trying very hard to just be supportive of Dave and what he wants to do and right now he wants to enjoy his little hiatus and the nice weather we are having on Cape Cod. We even got to go to the beach one day last week when I played hooky from work. Go with the flow….ride with the tide I guess. Thanks again-Patrice
