Congrats on your success story. I had statistics and odds and it’s nice to know that there are actual people, yes people who live very well, even after this diagnosis.
Keep on trekking.
-Randi-RandiSpectatorCongrats Lainy and Teddy!

RandiSpectatorThank you lulu07, I am glad you were able to find a skilled surgeon who would do your surgery. Hope you are recovering well from the surgery and have a happy and healthy future ahead of you. Best wishes…Randi

January 28, 2010 at 10:03 pm in reply to: What cancer center sees the most bile duct cancers? #34843RandiSpectatorUnfortunately, they could not get me in to see a specialist in CC at Sloan. They would get me in to see a general oncologist who stated that there was no special treatment or clinical trials for this type of cancer and that I should receive treatment locally. I canceled the appointment and am going to Roswell in Buffalo where I will see a specialist.
I saw Dr. Abou-Alfa and tried to get in with him but he was booking out 4-5 weeks and that is just to long for me to wait to start chemo if that is what I do.
Thanx for the input though…wish I could have gotten in sooner

I spoke with my internist today and she also suggested Sloan Kettering. So that is definitely on my short list.
Thank you…y’all are a lifeline.

I forgot to add that my doctor feels that I will be able to go back to work on 2/15. I am a computer programmer and my job is fairly sedentary. I may go back part time to start with. I do feel like I am gathering strength every day, I just wish it were nice outside so I could walk. I am looking into renting a treadmill for a few months.
The oncologist also said that I would be able to work during chemo as well. I am guessing that I will be taking some vacation days due to exhaustion from the chemo and to get the chemo.Marion:
Do you know which cancer centers treat a high volume of CC?RandiSpectatorLainey: Sounds like Teddy had quite a time with his surgery! So sorry to hear that. But it also sounds like you both had great attitudes about it.
Marion: I am trying to gather information, but it is scarce. I am analytical by nature and it is really frustrating not to have anything concrete to base my decision on.
I am looking forward to hearing from others about their thoughts on prophylactic treatment and it’s impact on recurrence.
RandiSpectatorBetsy,
Sorry to hear you were in the hospital, but heartened to hear that they think it is scar tissue and have a plan of attack that will relieve your symptoms!

RandiSpectatorLainy,
I am not sure where to go for a second opinion. I would prefer not to travel since my energy level is so low. Do you know of any places that do second opinions by looking at records without physically seeing you?
-Randi-
RandiSpectatorI also hope and pray your good health continues!
Where did you go that the oncologist recommended against chemo or radiation? (sorry if you said already).
Your news is great to hear! Here’s to continued good news.
