Thank you Marions! It is relieving to hear someone chime in for this is a roller coaster ride for our family! We are trying to plan for our living conditions to include my dad under our roof & it is so up and down…. I don’t know what to do sometimes but have the biggest desire to crawl into a hole for a day or 2.
The other day, he wanted to argue he was taking 10mg of Oxy when I know he is on 20mg. I even called pharmacy to confirm when they filled his med cuz he was about out. Only to come to find out, he is not taking the correctly…hmmm! He is not taking them on a continuous basis as he should….hence, one day good, next day bad!
I have to remember that this is not a time to judge but a time to understand that cancer can speak in many different ways….he is confused, but still here mentally but cancer is slowly showing its self in his actions/ convo
sgmMemberThank u all
sgmMemberSorry it has been a while too! So, Dad is now on Lyrica 75mg 3x a day and seems to think it helps as long as he is working with his hands! Down time is not good! For the stumbling, yes he can not find his footing sometimes but I think the high does of neurotin was causing him to trip more. I def. feel we are on a better path, so thank u Snow bird for your input
sgmMemberAnd the neuropathy is getting worse. He is now @ 900mg 3x a day of Gabapentin, but it is not helping. Call # 3 went into the Dr today. Maybe they will switch him to Lyrica or give him another option.
It is so hard to watch this big strong man stumble over his own feet wondering if or when he might hurt himself. Or to see him struggle with even opening a straw. He told me today… He couldn’t even zip or button his pants due to the numbness in his hands. My response was go get some elastic ones
Will this get better? And is it common to trip over your feet so much with neuropathy?
sgmMemberSnowbird, do you remember how much he was taking?
Also thank you Marions for the link I found it very helpful!sgmMemberSnowbird, I am very sorry to hear about your husband but I am very grateful you are willing to share his experience with me! Thank you! By the way it is the Gabapentin…. Sorry for not looking it up last nite. I was being lazy
sgmMemberI really enjoyed relating to this! Thank u for sharing!

So far his recent scan showed no growth/ maybe a little less, but this was at the beginning of taking him off Oxaliplatin. Crossing my fingers it will be the same in 3 months with Gemar only. In the mean time, neuropathy is a huge pain for him!
Thanks again!
sgmMemberThank you for the guidance, Marions! I will see what I can find by doing a search

Again, thank you!
sgmMemberThank you, Marion’s! Should I post it in general Disscusion? And how do I revive it?
Thanks again for your help!
sgmMemberThank you so much for your kind words Gavin!
Dad’s port is out and there was much more infection within and underneath it than we thought. They are sending a sample off for culture. It may not help that he is allergic to penicillin, so the antibiotics they have been giving him may not have been strong enough to do the job.
Who really knows, just glad to out!sgmMemberThank you Marions! I hope so too!
Time to get back on track
sgmMemberLainy, thank you for your response and the link!
Dad has just recently turned 56yr and is being treated at a local clinic. We did have a second opinion from a top notch Liver Ong from Duke Cancer Center. They are both working side by side to help treat dad. So, I can tell you we are satisfied with the medical team….. We just have a very stubborn patient!
I wrote the post so I did not get kicked off…lol! But I did not want to write a book so I left out a lot of detail. Dad did have molecular testing done and that is where the problem was on determining the right treatment plan. 90% positive Liver and I think it was a very low positive % bile duct. They did suggest Nexavar and chemo Both to start Aug 2014 but Dad was not having it since he just lost his dad to cancer. My grandfather did not respond to Chemo so I think that scared my dad. When, it comes to meds, well, he has a pharmacy….. He just has to take them correctly. He has all that you mentioned and plenty more. When he was in a lot of pain over the mets to bone, he refused to admit it might just be cancer so he was in denial until I stepped in for pain management. This is when he agreed to chemo which has been wonderful for him! Also, he could be a walking add for Ensure
