    Louise,

Thank you for your post. It really made me feel at ease to think about meeting with hospice if Mom decides that is what she wants to do. Very interesting about the cost of hospice, I had no idea. I think that they will be as much a help to me as they will be to mom.

I am sorry to hear that your mom is failing. Three years living with cc is certainly different than her 1 year initial diagnosis.

I am so sorry to hear that you and your mom have cc. Goes back to the hereditary question. Mom’s oncologist has reassured me numerous times that cc is not hereditary, but I wonder. I went to the dr and asked about some genetic testing, and insurance told me that one specific test that the dr wanted to do was $3000.00, and insurance wouldn’t cover it. Although if Mom had the testing done insurance should cover more of the charge, since she has cancer.

Thank you again so much for your post. I don’t know what I would do without our little group. Big hugs to you.

    Dianne,

Thank God (literally, huh?) I am SOOOO glad to hear your wonderful news! God is what who we are depending on to help with Mom’s cc. She doesn’t want to do chemo again in the future, she has had bad experiences the last 3 times that she has had it. She is currently undergoing radiation. I will continue to pray for you.

    Lots of love, Amy

    Hi everyone,

Mom is now on her 6th day of radiation. She is receiving Trilogy radiation. The dr told her not to lift anything more than 2 pounds, because if she ruptures her vertebrae that would be bad news! The oncologist is going to start her on a treatment plan at the end of August, which includes injections to strengthen her bones, and hopefully keep her from getting any more tumors on her bones, although that is still questionable if it actually does that. She is very very tired and a little nauseous, but the pain in her stomach, back, and groin are gone.

Mom had a talk with her regular oncologist and the radiation oncologist and asked them if they would promise to tell her if the time came that they weren’t able to do anything else for her. The radiation oncologist said that it would be a long time before that come, and her regular oncologist promised to tell her if that time came. She did mention that she encourages all of her patients to contact hospice. She said that way if the time comes that they really need them they will be set up with someone and not have a stranger come into their home. That kind of threw me for a loop. The dr said that many people think that hospice is for when people are dying (which is what I have always thought about it), but she said that she has many patients who are on hospice for years. Mom said that she wasn’t going to call them now, because she doesn’t need them, and we aren’t sure how long insurance pays for them, but she was glad to have had that talk with the dr. Of course I know that she is going to die someday, we all are, but it was still very hard for me to hear that conversation. Mom did tell the dr that she wasn’t going to do chemo anymore. It was just too hard on her. Sorry to ramble on and on. It is just nice to have someone to share my thoughts and feeling with that really understand how I feel.

    Big hugs to everyone!

    Kris,

I am so sorry that you didn’t get the kind of news that we were all hoping for you to get. Big hugs to you!!!! I am sending you lots of good prayers hoping that this new chemo combination does the job for you!!! If it shrinks the tumor, will you then be able to reconsider surgery? Lots of prayers and good thoughts coming your way!!!!

Hi, The oncologist was on it!!! Mom started radiation today. She will have 10 treatments. Both the oncologist and radiation oncologist said that this this is just another bump in the road. They said that the pelvis and everywhere else were clean, except for those couple of lymph nodes acting up. Keeping my fingers crossed!!

    Jan,
It is such a coincidence!!!! As strange as it is, when my mom was in the hospital getting ready for her surgery one of her nurses had a sister who had been diagnosed with cc earlier that year. We also have some friends whose preacher’s wife was diagnosed with cc.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your family friend.

    Hi everyone,

Just wanted to give you an update….. As you might remember a couple of weeks ago we were worried because Mom was having some of her original symptoms (dark urine, light stool, itching). The dr did lots of bloodwork and ct scan, and determined it was from a fall that she had where she got a black eye. They did put her on an antibiotic because she had been having some chillls and not feeling great, they figured that she had a small infection somewhere. She is now feeling so much better, all of those pesky symptoms are gone. Her stomach is feeling much better. I know that we always have to keep our fingers and toes crossed, but for right now things look pretty positive!

As for me, I am not 5 1/2 months pregnant and we found out last week we are having a boy. Maddy, our 5 year old daughter was VERY VERY excited! Life is pretty swell these days ;).

I check in daily and keep everyone here in my prayers!
    Lots of love,
    Amy

My dad died in 1996. As the years pass, the pain definitely subsides. I still miss him lots and lots.

    Big hugs to everyone,

    Hi again,

    Thanks for the responses!

Marion, Mom and I just talked about the stent, and she said that she is going to talk to the dr about whether her stent disolved, or is still in there. They are supposed to call as soon as they have the results from the cultures. Funny thing is that all of her symptoms; dark urine, light stool, itching are all gone.

We will stay on top of this though.

    Thanks again!

    Hi everyone,

Marion, Mom hasn’t had a stent replaced at all yet. She isn’t even sure if she still has one in there. Do they normally have to be replaced? The oncologist called one of the radiologist down to look at the scans with her while Mom was there. Mom will go back in about 4 weeks. Hopefully she will notice a huge improvement and we can go from there. They took 4 viles of blood yesterday to find out more about the infection and what needs to be done next. My thoughts were that they need to know where to route an ERCP to before they can do anything, don’t they? Mom is just content waiting for a little while and seeing how the antibiotic does. She is feeling about 100% better today.

    Hi everyone,

So, here is what they came up with yesterday….. Mom fell a couple of weeks ago and ended up with an awful black eye. The dr said that her bilirubin is high because when the blood distributes back into the body it can bother the bilirubin because of her previous condition. They also put her on an antibiotic for an infection in her liver. We think that she has probably had the infection since she was in the hospital in February. She has been feeling crummy since then. So, we will watch things over the next few days and see what goes on.

    Have a nice day!

    Hi everyone,

Mom is getting her cat scan right now and will meet with the oncologist following the scan…. please send her lots of healthy vibes!

She is still itching some. Funny thing is that she had me come and look at her urine because I am always asking a million questions. I was shocked, it is much lighter than mine ever is. It is a pale yellow, sorry, way too much information ;). The dr said that her bilirubin is up just a very small amount. Her stool is lighter also though. So, something is going, I just pray that it isn’t too much!!!!!!!!!!!

    Have a nice weekend,
    Amy
