Dear ANP,
Please accept my deepest sympathy at this heartbreaking time.
The words you wrote about getting the images of your Dads last hours out of your head really stuck a chord with me, as this is how I felt after watching my precious Dad pass away. It will be a year February 19th for my Dad and those images have become less and less. I am remembering my happy, healthy, smiley Dad more and more each day.
Please take care of yourself.
Love to you and your family

andieSpectatorDear CM,
I too feel so lonely and tired, even though I’ve got a wonderful family I feel I don’t want to burden them with my sadness as I don’t want to make them feel sad too. I know my Mom is heartbroken and lonely so at times I feel like I’ve lost my best friend too as I can’t tell Mom how I feel, she’s got her own emotions to deal with without mine.
Christmas day came and went, and thanks to my son was better than expected but Boxing day I felt like I’d been hit by an emotion train. The tears wouldn’t stop flowing, but like Lainy said we pick ourselves up and start again. It’s so so hard though and I think perhaps we may be doing ourselves more harm than good keeping everything in. I watched the film Ghost tonight and I feel so much better after a good cry.
Take care x

andieSpectatorMary,
I second the sugar remedy, this worked for my Dad on the one occasion he suffered from them. I hope this works for Tom too, if not like Marion suggested there should be a medication they can prescribe to relax the diagphram.
My best wishes to you and Tom x
andieSpectatorHi Amanda,
Welcome to our cc family.
Firstly it’s never to late. I would recommend a second opinion asap.
Jaundice was my Dads first sympton of cc and whilst he too was inoperable a stent was fitted to open the bile duct and let the bile flow. Later on when they weren’t working they fitted an external drain. This should have been offered, even under pallative care.
My Dad was lucky in the fact jaundice didn’t make him feel ill but they told us this is rare, usually the patient itches, feels sick and tired.
I’m sure someone else will welcome and add their opinion too BUT speaking as someone whos parent had cc, I would get another opinion so you know you have done all you can in helping your Mom fight this.
My best wishes to you and your family

andieSpectatorDear Michael,
My Dad suffered from a bacterial blood infection too after a stent change. IV antibiotics soon kicked it into touch. He too suffered from stomach pains and had problems with bowel movements, we don’t know if the IV antibiotics added to this. They prescribed movicol but this made my Dad worse (he did have a colostomy bag from when he had bowel cancer). Like Marion said fluid intake is really important and my Dad learnt what foods were easier to digest which also helped. I remember Dads stomach feeling bruised after his infection but this only lasted a few days, and a good nights rest in your own bed works wonders too.
So glad also that your bilirubin level has dropped, 20 to 10 is fantastic!!
Also my Dad was put on a permanent low dose of ciprofloxin (sp) antibiotics to help keep further infections at bay. This seemed to work well for him.
Best wishes
Andrea
andieSpectatorMichael,
Sending lots of best wishes your way. The cc journey always seems like a rollecoaster ride or 2 steps forward 3 steps back BUT like Mustangmort said you are one tough dude. xx
@ Marion, thank you for your kind words. When Dad was jaundiced I searched the net looking for all sorts of advice and the tomato and lemon juice were always mentioned. I think they are supposed to help the bile flow better and make it less sticky, which is what you want when you have stents/drains. Hope you are ok xx
andieSpectatorBetter is good Michael!! Hope the itching continues to improve. Dad was also told to drink Tomato juice to help his jaundice clear, he added a little salt and pepper to it and enjoyed it. He also started and ended the day with fresh lemon juice in warm water, again another remedy to help bile flow.
Best wishes coming your way.
Andrea
