Blue Cross turned down the SIRT spheres and I was told to buy the book, “How to fight the Insurance Companies and Win” and appeal it. Have any others used this book? Looks like my only avenue now is resection and my oncologist wants me to see his in-house surgeon to get his opinion. Hard to get excited about anything since the insurance companies seem to be running the show.

I slept a lot when I got out of the hospital after a c-diff infection. Let him sleep for a few days and then spend more time sitting up and alking around. It took me awhile to recover but I did.

DEb, in regards to the c-diff, I had it twice wthin a month and read up on it and found a probiotic that has helped me. It is Florastor and has the bacteria in it that fights c-diff. Haven’t had it since. I buy it on-line. Good luck

I have had 7 cycles (14 treatments) of Gemzar and Zeloda and feel and look great. No hair thinning and people are surprised when they hear I have stage IV. The drugs they give with the chemo are amazing so you don’t feel ill. I get hyper from the Decadron steroid they give along with the infusion. My tumor has greatly reduced in size. I am am glad to hear you started chemo, Jane.

I forgot to mention that the aforementioned doctors are at the Moores Cancer Center, UCSD, La Jolla. Also, I read where somebody who had the beads in the liver had to be careful not to be too close to others for 14 days when the radiation was the strongest. Is that still the case? I’d like to hear from others who have had this procedure which I am contemplating.

Dr. Fanta is the medical oncologist. Dr. Lawson is the radiation oncologist and Dr. Rose is the interventional radiologist.

I went to the radiation oncologist yesterday and I would have 6 sessions of the external radiation. In early May, I see the interventional radiologist to see if I should have the internal beads placed in one treatment in the liver tumor. Then, they want me to decide with them which I will have. How do I know? My tumor is on the back side of the liver at the tip. Opinions out there? I am being treated at UCSD in La Jolla,CA.

That’s funny. My regime is the chemo first. I had absolutely no side effects to the chemo or Xeloda. The problem was with the steroids they gave me before the infusion. It makes me hyper for a few days and it is hard to sleep. Then it goes away. With the Xeloda, I took compazine with each dose to make sure I didn’t get nauseous and never have been. I am on 2 weeks one 1 week off. I am able to drive myself to chemo 40 min on fwy. The Gemzar infusion takes only 1/2 hour but it is waiting for the blood work to come back each time before infusion that takes time. I hope you have good luck with it. It shrunk my tumors by 70% in 5 months.

I developed TMJ on the right side of my jaw when I started chemo and I still have it. I read somewhere that chemo tightens your jaw joint. I don’t know if this is the case with you. I have clicking for six months when I open and close my mouth.

Drink Gatorade. It will help with the electrolytes and potassium. I decided to start taking a probiotic because I had two bowel infections. I feel it has really helped. Onc said it would be okay.

I didn’t have time to be scared and just did the chemo. I have Gemzar 2 weeks on and one week off and also take Xeloda pills during the chemo period. I have had no side effects except that I am a little tired some days and need a nap. The infusion center gives me steroids before the Gemzar for nausea and I also take compazine with the pills. I haven’t tried it without compazine–just take it in case. I have never been nauseus and I have not lost my hair. My tumors have shrunk by 1/2 and I am back t my old life. My feeling is…try it you may like it. Seriously, it is easily tolerated, in my opinion.

    of antibiotics.

    Amanda,
Just curious. With PSC, does Aime have colitis or Crohn’s?

Michelle, I have cc and my daughter is a teacher, too, with two little boys. Your work will keep you going. Cry a lot for awhile and then you will cry less and enjoy your days with him. It took us a month or so to stop crying and enjoy making memories.
