I am very new here but it seems to be a wonderful support system. Maybe he was trying to use “laymens” terms whith the breaking down comment. But, I agree with getting a second opinion just for peace of mind.
Sorry for your loss, please dont bottle it up though. Go somewhere private and let it all out.

My brother is starting chemo: cisplatin (Platinol) and gemcitabine (Gemzar).
It seems like this is a very common course of tx from what I have been reading.
Also it seems like some ppl have minimal side effects while others feel very “icky” so I guess we dont know what to expect.
He and his wife trust Dr. Bruce Feinberg of Georgia Cancer Specialists very much and this seems to be the best way to go. Day by day, as a recovering alcoholic I have said this a lot but today it means so much more.
Hope you all have a good night tonight (New Years Eve) in whatever situation you are in.

His diagnosis is “malignant neoplasm of extrahepatic bile ducts” with an
additional diagnosis of “malignant neoplasm of liver not specified as
    primary or secondary.”

We don’t know the stage, but it is advanced. We also don’t know if it is
    in the lymph nodes.

I will have more info on Tues.

I am a dental hygienist so her is my 2 cents.
If you develop dry mouth there are a lot of options for products depending on the severity.
Biotene ( available at target) had a whole line of products that can help.
Another brand of moisturizing mouth rinse is Oasis, by the makers of sensodyne.
I like the 1st better because it has xylitol sweetener…this is proven to arrest the bacteria that causes decay also in gum or lozenges it can stimulate saliva flow which naturally helps.
brands: xylichew, spry are usually at healthfood stores
Icebreakers gum or trident w xylitol are good too.
Act anticavity rinse cant hurt either but not the “restoring” as it has alcohol which can be drying. Let me know if I can answer any more questions.

I am new here so I have a dumb question. With this diagnosis is it a given that it is in the liver as well or do some of you have only the bile duct tumor?

    Lisa,
Please tell me what type of tx you are having and any nutritional advice.
I also see the power of prayer is very important to you. :)
